Music of relatively young artists is instantly recognizable, and I don't mean this in a good way. (Are there Jay-Z songs where he does NOT do 'Uh-huh?')
It's so annoying and boring --does anyone agree?

I KNEW some people would call me crazy, and that's just ridiculous --don't immediately play the racism card when someone makes a (n admittedly) generalized argument about a race.
My point was that the current generation of black guys make extremely boring 'music'. It'd be racist if I disliked black male artists *because* they are black males --but that's pertinently not the case. I dislike 'em because of the music they make. And because their videos lack imagination: if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all.

To Nesser: you're assumnig that I am ABLE to make the distinction between hip hop, rap, etc., which I'm not. I have no idea what the distinction is; other than that it all sounds the same to me (and that the lyrics all seem to revolve around women in derogatory terms, and money), the only thing it has in common, is that the 'artists' are all black guys.
I'd be a racist if I had said: "I hate this music because it's made by black guys." I didn't. I said that the music by the current generation of black guys is boring. Some generalizations may come across as racist, but that doesn't automatically MAKE 'em racist.

To Jalica H: I'm thinking about giving the 'best answer' "reward" to sunflower 2, because she pointed out that
1) I'd never say something similar about country music (even though I seriously dislike that as well), BECAUSE
2) country music isn't mainstream where I live so I'm not confronted with it very often.
So the problem really isn't those talentless black guys (50ct, Jay-Z, etc.) who are making it big right now, but the fact that non-mainstream black guys who ARE making original music, aren't getting the exposure they deserve. It's really the fault of the people who keep plugging (and buying!) what's popular, that's given this world boring music --and an endless parade of Big Brother-like TV shows. Milk the cow until it's dried up!

Your question is racist, but I will answer it anyway.
I think you mean the artists, who happen to be black, make boring music.
Really, I agree with you but not in the way you think. If you are talking about R&B and hip hop mainstream I agree.
Also, I think that many of the rock and country artists are boring too. But not because they are MAINLY white.
It is MAINSTREAM that is the problem.
If you look at Underground music, or un signed artists or local artists and bands, you find better music.
Also, I do and wish other people would, explore music of the later and recent past that was not POPULAR. There are some real gems.
There are many albums and artists of all MUSIC GENRES and RACES who were not promoted properly but cut really good stuff.
GO PAST RACE AND LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE IN MAINSTREAM AND SEE.
But you won't will you?

I agree entirely. The evolution of music over the history of mankind has played a similar scenario over and over. How many people back in whatever the hell day it was were saying, "This Beethoven crap sure is getting annoying. It sounds like he is just playing the same thing over and over again." Every music style ever introduced played distinctively different by different artists still sounds the same to someone who does not appreciate the slight differences that these artists impose on the music. For example, someone who listens to hip hop may not be able to tell the difference between the following...
Lynyrd Skynyrd -vs- Neil Young
Beethoven -vs- Bach
Springsteen -vs- Dylan
Zepplin - vs- Pink Floyd
Nirvana - vs- Pearl Jam
Etc, Etc, ETc.
I know I can not tell a rats ars difference between any of that hip hop music. But I guarantee it is just as big a difference as Hendrix and Townsend.
There are a lot of factors that affect a music style that takes over a generation of listeners. Money, Instruments that are available in that time frame, how previous music affected the trend, the economy, of course the artists, and the list goes on and on.
Think of the difference in the music styles during our roaring twenties and our great depression. We went from big band to blues. If we played songs from those generations most people reading this would hear big band and blues and not be able to decipher the difference between the different groups playing the music.
Hip hop and rap and heavy metal and all other music styles are affected by the same curse. Play any hip hop song and to those who do not live the music, it all sounds the same... BORING.
The real question is... Whats next?

I do not think that you are trying to be racist, but in the future, you may want to consider HOW you word your question. The way it is worded tends to make sounds racist.
As a woman of color, I really cannot feel the majority of modern-day black music because it has far too many roots in misogyny, materialism, violence and obscenity. I hate to say it, but I really do miss old-school hip-hop because they had a message and had something to say. I think that many also had some struggle in their lives, so it gave some soul and depth into their music (Remember Grand Master Flash, The Message, or Tupac and Biggie?). I think that since there's no gang wars or poverty, you have a lot of comfortable artists who produce a lot of what I feel is banality. But as long as there is a marketplace for the current music that exists, then the music scene will stay the same.

I agree racist or not. I love hiphop but I AM embarrassed by most music classified as "hiphop" these days. But the real problem isn't who's making it, it's who's buying it. Let's be real. Most radio stations aren't owned by black people. The companies that sign and distribute the garbage aren't owned by black people. And most of the "music" sales aren't generated by black people. I live in a middle to upper class area that's mostly populated by white people and I can't remember the last time I heard the white high school kids here driving around blasting green day or tim mcgraw, but I always hear lil jon or 50 cent! I agree with others that ALL music is in the toilet and creativity is non-existent.
Here's my answer... Do us both a favor and tell your kids, brothers, sisters, relatives to stop buying the music and it'll go away. By the way, without "black guys" whatever music that you have in your CD or MP3 player right now probably wouldn't even exist. Influence has no color lines.

I have to agree with you. The music that is being put out in todays market has the same sound and beat. The music of the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's had class and everyone had their own individuality. Now you have three groups that have the same beat and style, where is the individuality with todays music. This is not only happening with the "black" singers it is happening with everyone. As for country music it is happening there also. You have a new singer and she sounds like Shania Twain or Dolly Parton - they are all singing the same stuff just different versions. Individuality has disappeared.

It might not be boring but instead all the same, same topics ( hoe's, money and guns) . Also remember many of the artist are young like 13 and 15, they do not have any good influence only what's out there. All music whether white, black or hispanic becomes boring at some time. I don't listen too much to people like papa roach or the like because it all sounds the same to me, but once in awhile I'll catch a sound by them and like it.

For the person above me.. umm if he wasnt tryin to be racist then he sould have used rap music, or hip hop music or r&b music. He DID not have to say black guys. And I thank you. African American men make all types of music these days, yes they may mostly be into hip hop. There are some country singer who are African American and rock, jazz, blues, heavy metal, etc.But there was no reason to point a finger at black men in general. Also, if the music is gettin old to you- then dont listen to it! There is plenty of music out there to where you can avoid hip hop! I think the music has changed; if you dont listen to hip hop on an everyday basis then you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Right now the southern tip has its way of making music and thats whats hot right now. Its different from the East and West coast old days.

If your pertaining to Rap, Then yes, I think that the world has herd enough about smacking bitches and popen caps in peoples asses. Also why mention Dub's in every fu*cking song? I agree that it's all repetitive and that mainstream music these days are allready written for them to perform so that the next big hit sounds like the last one. But if your pertaining to Jazz, Blues, Hip Hop, I think that if you look hard "Brother Ali, Atmosphere, DWI, KrhymeChild, South Paw, Gemini Ryan, and ext: then you find that there are new idea's and new feelings being expressed by the youth and not by the agents that sign them. Good question!

Maybe you just listen to black guys who do boring music. Obviously you've never heard of Gnarles Barkley. There are so many others.
Also, it has nothing to do with the color of their skin that the ones you think are boring are that way. You won't believe how many people I've heard complain about white punk bands because they all have that whining voice and pretty much the same point in every song. It has nothing to do with skin color man.
Some artists are good and some are not.

I must agree with the Jay-Z thing but otherwise thats a tad racist. I think that a lot of artists these days are running out of ideas for their music and lyrics not just black guys. I mean yes alot of rappers lyrics are awful and sometimes just stupid but all rappers arent black.
