I took the prolog to school, so my English teacher could read it. However, I let a mate of mine read it as well, now everyone laughs at it. 1 lad even quotes it and it really annoys me. What do I do? I daren't tell a teacher or even my own mother. Help me please, someone? :(

Don't let the beggars get you down. They are just kids being kids. Write what you want.

Keep writing it and look for friends who really appreciate you. It seems as if there is a lot of envy involved in your mates' reaction. I bet none of them had ever attempted to write a book and chances are none of them would be able to do so. Keep up your work and discuss it with your teacher. If he is worth his salt he should encourage you and perhaps suggest improvements. You could also look out for a writers' club where you can meet people with similar interests and talk about your work. Most communities have such a club. Just look in the weekly advertising papers. Most of the members might be older than you are. Don't worry about that. You will be fine as you seem way ahead in your personal development.
- And don't let silly comments hold you back. Carry on and rather look for new mates. I wish you all the best.

A fantastic writer who doesn't write is light years behind a mediocre writer who DOES write. You obviously have the drive to work on an ambitious project like writing a book. That means you are already ahead of better writers who are too busy or too unmotivated to write. Your first book may not be the most fabulous book on the planet, but trust me, if you are writing now and you keep it up, your writing skill will only improve and this book you are writing will be part of that process. Continue to have the drive to write and the talent will develop on it's own. Just don't show your friends anymore. They don't seem to know how to take it seriously. If they were more mature they would understand that effort is 90% of creativity and talent is 10%.

Right, do you really want to write this book?
Cos if you do, you'll have to ignore them, and be flattered that they are quoting YOUR writing. Their teasing is because they are envious of your talent, or just don't know how to react. Human beings quite often attack what they can't understand, that which doesn't fit into their neat litlle world.
Show your teacher, explain that you were feeling reluctant to show it to the teacher. Or, why not take your writing to the local library, get talking to the librarian, and ask if they could read it and give an honest opinion, after all they deal with books all day every day.
Don't give up.
Good luck.

Everybody is good at something, others better.

You have found a skill and an enjoyment that you like. Don't give up just because your friends don't understand. Its all too easy to laugh at things we don't understand.

Definitely show your teacher, and be proud off your work. Listen to any guidance your teacher has to offer. The advice the teacher gives will inevitably be for your benefit.

So if your teachers suggests, 'maybe try to write and express your words such or such away' don't take it as rejection in light of your experience with your friends.

As your teacher teaches English, he/she will be the best person to approach for guidance. Also be proud, tell your mom that you are writing a book.

Just don't give up because of your friends. Good luck and keep writing.

If you believe that you have the talent to make it as a writer then there is no need to worry about what you're friends think.
You can get your own back on them when you become a success. You'll be doing what you love (and earning an insane amount of money for it) and they will be working their arses off for peanuts.
I'm not sure they will be laughing at you so much then.

If I were in your situation, people laughing would just make me much more determind to do it.

I'm sure somebody laughed at Charles Dickens and (this one's a bit more modern) J.K. Rowling when they said that they wanted to be writers.

Don't give up, whatever you do!!

Tell them that just because they are so simple and have such lack of imagination doesn't mean that everyone has to be like them. Writing is another way of expressing yourself. Some people write, others will play music, others will write poems, others will do some graffitti, others will vandalise. It's just a way to express your ideas and ideals also. They obviously don't get it. Tell your mate he/she is an idiot for telling everyone about it. And also you should have seen it coming.
I hope it goes well and remember you will need an agent to get it published. By the way, if you end up winning the nobel prize for literature ... you could end up being mega rich like J K Rowling.

Don't tell anyone who isn't going to help you with this project of yours anything any longer. They are jealous because you are making an attempt at a project that they are too immature to understand or undertake for themselves. Be proud of yourself and understand that when ever you do something to make yourself shine out from all the others, they tend to try and take that light from you by making you feel you're doing wrong, when they simply wish they could be as courageous as you. Cheers!

Look at it this way the kid that quotes it remembers enough of it to quote. Not many authors create work that people can remember word for word so you should be proud. Ignore the people that put it down and try to get some peers that will give you feedback be it positive or negative to expand your story.

Let them laugh. The fact that they are quoting it is significant, it means they will remember it ... I'd say your mates are dead jealous, fair play to you. Keep the manuscript, send copies to whoever, or put it up on MySpace, I'd like to read it.

You're getting a reaction. This is a good thing!

These people are obviously just jealous that they have neither the inititative or intelligence to do something productive with their time, like you are. Just try to ignore them. You're obviously a bright girl, and i know school can be difficult- but just think of it this way... when you are grown up and a successful writer/ journalist/ whatever- they'll be scrubbing floors and flipping burgers and trying to support their hundreds of illegitimate kids.... Cheer up :)
