Most are lazy, selfish and inconsiderate.
My great aunt once got stranded in a blizzard, and due to the severe frostbite in her feet had both legs amputated just below the knees. With some training, she could drive a car that was fitted with hand controls. I once saw her walking from the far side of a large grocery store parking lot with her crutches, gave here a lift to the front of the store and noticed the all the handicapped spaces were taken. I also noticed that only 2 of the cars had the handicap tags or placard. I parked, went into the store and helped my aunt. As we came out of the store, At one of the cars parked in the handicap spaces, a young woman with no obvious handicap was loading loading her groceries into her trunk. I was very annoyed. I asked the woman what her handicap was. SHe made some catty remark about how she never saw any handicapped person using the spaces and why should she park at the far side of the lot when there was an empty spot next to the store. As she turned, I moved a bit so she could see my aunt (who hadn't said anything). I said, "This is my Aunt Lily. You may notice that she has 2 artificial feet, and 2 crutches. She had to park across the lot because you and others like you were too lazy and selfish to think about people like her that really need to use the handicapped spaces. I just happened to be driving by and saw her and stopped to help her. If I weren't here she would probably be trying to push her cart back to her car by her self and I seriously doubt you would really care."

The same reason why people speed, run red lights, cut people off, etc. It is a combination of trying to get away with something and "rules apply to everyone but me"....

keep in mind that many people have handicaps that are not visible. Also those with purple heart license plates are authorized to park in Handicapped spots.

I am one of those people that does notice handicapped placards ( or lack thereof). My Mum (before she got too sick to go out) had a handicapped placard and there was only one occasion where I had to confront someone about their misuse of the space. I think for the most part, people do abide by the handicapped space rules. It is just the occasional idiot that pulls into one of those spots when they have no need or right.

Some feel that they'll only be in the store for a minute or two, and it won't harm anyone.

Some simply can't find another parking space.

Some just want to see if they can get away with it.

Some do it because the handicapped spots are generally in the shade--rather than the glaring sun.

Some know that they will be exiting the store with an extremely large or heavy purchase.

Some just have no regard for the people who are truly handicapped--this one is the worst shame of all.

Some are not visibly handicapped. Examples: Heart patients, people with oxygen, amputees of the foot.

Others are just rude and/or in a hurry.

Maybe they are fond of parking tickets.
Are you sure they are not handicapped?
Some people do not look disabled but may still be.

For the same reason people try to apply for hadicapped status when they are not handicapped. They are trying to get over without thinking of the consequenses.

I think most may do it because they don't think they are going to be very long and no one will need the spot in that short of a time. Then of course there are the ones that are just lazy and rude.

I know people who have done it, been ticketed, and then, screamed about it! These people thought that since they were just going to be THERE for a few minutes, that it was just fine. They really got upset when the fine was hundreds of dollars.
I have disability tag, and I really appreciate it when people do NOT do this! It IS true, not all disabilities are visable. So, when you see someone with a disability tag or license, and think they look just fine...................remember, all disabilities are not visable.

Because, they can and get away with it. Don't bother reporting them, we already tried. It was going to cost $100.00 to file a complaint. My Brother has to walk with a walker and, My Dad uses a wheelchair, sometimes we have to walk half a parking lot to get were we are going. By the way my Brother and Dad were both hurt in the Army. Makes you wonder don't it
