Kenny Chesney's "She thinks my tractor's sexy" sounds too funny to be romantic and now Brad Paisley has a new song called "Ticks," where he finds it romantic to check his lady friend for...well, ticks.

Uh, is it just me or do these songs have redneck overtones/stereotypes? If some guy came up to me and asked to check me for ticks, I'd be turned off.

Sure they do ...Redneck is a stereotype used to describe certain people of the Southern US .. Typically theses were simple , mostly lower educated people who's way of life was different than that of a city " slicker " Hard working farmers , who's way of life was pure " country "
To them a tractor is as special as a BMW to others .. they sing about things they know ..
Many of these country singers have roots that would be considered " redneck " and as funny as it is .. a lot of the people who listen to this type of music can relate to a lot of it ..
even though the songs were meant to be humorous .
" you know your a red neck if you go to a family reunion to meet your next girl friend ..."

They can be. Music is and has often been linked to emotional matters and many of the great writers of history have spoken of it as such. I also find that music is often good at arousing feelings in the listener, even when one cannot personally identify with the words of a song or the thematic content. For example I can think of the song "Forever Autumn" (which is included in the "War of the Worlds" musical) and appreciate the feelings of sadness and longing just from the tune, even though I've never lost a lover (or had one to lose). I frankly don't have a song at the moment, though I have a tune in my head...

maybe you take things just a tad too seriously...those two songs are made to make you laugh, not run off for a romantic rendezvous...and by the way...lay off rednecks, willya? without rednecks, where would this country be? do you think your house built itself? does ralph lauren deliver his clothing line personally?

Oh i hate that song ticks, its awful as hell.to answer your question, they atick to waht they are, country singers.the songs are too country for my taste but Rascal Flatts and Gary Allan are real artists, good for mainstream radio. Also look for Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp's duo,the Wreckers, great music no matter how country My Oh My is.

LOL! That's funny! I still say my favorite is "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly", although it's not really redneck themed.
