If the CD contains a restoration image, you could only use it on a fairly identical system, otherwise the Hardware Abstraction Layer or HAL (drivers between the OS and the hardware) will not allow the system to boot. You may also be violating the license agreement (I haven't read a Dell license agreement in a while) so you have that to worry about too. Also be aware that if you aren't violating a license term, activation of the product may be an issue too (you can't run multiple versions from a single install unless it is a volume version)

I am pretty sure that the Dell branded copies of XP are nothing more than the standard XP disk with a Dell label.
I know it was the case a few years ago, who knows if they changed it?
Really, all you can do is try. But keep in mind that you will need a new product key for that new computer. You will not be able to use the product key from your Dell because that key IS Dell specific.

Hey, no you cannot use a standard version of XP and the Dell COA sticker together. Even if you try to use the serial number on the Dell COA, it wont work. If your Dell computer and its under warranty, you can call dell tech support and they would ship you the cds free of cost. In case, your Dell computer is not under warranty and you have never ever been shipped the cds from Dell in the past, you can still call the Dell tech support and request them for it and they might ship it to you. If your computer has never been formatted before and it was bought after 09/24/2004 then it would have a tool called "Dell PC Restore" which can clean up all thats on the computer and make it brand new as you got it on day one. To get that tool working,as soon as you power up the computer and se the Dell logo, hold down the control(ctrl) key and keep tapping the F11 key which would take you to the Dell PC restore screen. The steps after that are self explanatory. Make sure before you do this, all the files and data thats important has been backed up somewhere to a disc or some external source. Do let me know if any of my information was helpful. Thanks.

you have to have a genuine XP cd key, and the only cd key that will work with those disks are genuine Dell cd keys.. and it has to be one that has never been used. so therefore, even the cd key that is on the sticker on the side of the case has been used.. it's virtually impossible to get an unused Dell CD key.
so that Dell XP disk is pretty much useless.
Besides, trying to use a Dell cd on a non dell machine is considered piracy, which is ILLEGAL.

It is possible but you would need to slipstream it into thinking your computer was a dell.
