Thanks!

Yes I mean the character was German, not the actor!

There was indeed a German Officer present, the man that Pike shoots for no apparent reason with his pistol, marking the beginning of the shootout.

He even calls himself, '.............of the Imperial German Army,'!

they were old.

they were tired and world-weary.

their time had come and gone.

the only thing left for them was to do what they did.

and they did it so well.

ADDENDUM:

i'm pretty sure there is a "German" officer in the film as you say. i'm not 100% sure if he is actually German, but i think the actor was supposed to be portraying a German officer.

The Wild Bunch 1969 Sam Pekinpah movie...

starring William Holden as Pike Bishop and Emilio Fernández as General Mapache

NOT A GERMAN OFFICER TO BE SEEN!!

Taglines for the movie:

The land had changed. They hadn't. The earth had cooled. They couldn't.

The came too late and stayed too long

Suddenly a new West has emerged. Suddenly it was sundown for nine men. Suddenly their day was over. Suddenly the sky was bathed in blood.

Unchanged men in a changing land. Out of step, out of place and desperately out of time.

Born too late for their own times. Uncommonly significant for ours.

Maybe you are referring to a different film??
