The bloodiest war America ever fought was against itself over the issue of slavery. In 1865, the anti-slavery forces won and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution abolished slavery on our soil.

Recently Oprah presented a segment on her show on modern slavery, and how all over the world people are still being forced into labor and prostitution against their will, often being held unlawfully as prisoners as well. Even in the United States today organized crime groups bring immigrants into the country illegally and hold them as slaves until their "debt" to the human traffickers is "paid off."

How many people worldwide are held in slavery today?

Are there any people held in slavery in the United States today?

If so, how many?

Are there more slaves in the world or in the U.S. than there were before the Civil War?

Are there more slaves in the world today than all the slaves in the history of the world combined?

How many

Yes, you and most everybody in the US are slaves. You're just too damn stupid to figure it out even when proof is handed to you on a silver platter. Roughly 80% of the world's population.

How many? You wont find answers anywhere. Even the FBI wont say anything about that. But the slave trade is alive and kicking worldwide. There is not a single country in the world that does not have slave trade.

I think most of the slave trade nowadays is relagated to the sale of females for both servants and sexual related things. But guys, hermaphrodites and unisex people are also being bought and sold.

I once saw a list from Saudi Arabia with people for sale on it. Your Joe Average person goes for anywhere from $1500 to $5000. There are exceptions, and the rare ones can go for much more, even millions.

I don't know, good, thought provoking and intelligent questions.

Certainly it seems as if the world is regressing into a more barbaric existence. I guess it is a cycle. Could it be possible that right now, we are seeing the beginning of darkness? Has the light that was once America dimmed to the point that it is hard to detect?

It has happened to every major Empire in the past, why do we think it is different today?

There are different forms of slavery these days. Very low key and subtle. Start with penitentiaries across the country. People, primarily Blacks and Hispanics, are getting tall time (longer sentences) and provide cheap labor. There's no such thing as paying your debt to society any more. So, people go back to doing exaxctly what they got convicted of doing. And get even more time.

There is a BIG difference. Before the Civil War slavery was legal in America; today it is not.

Absolutely. Not slavery as it was once known but a different form. Many of the illegal immigrants that come to this country from Mexico or asia fall victim to people that basically have them as indentured servants... they get paid but they must pay for their room and board and for their passage to the states and basically are locked into an endless cycle of working 16 hours days simply to pay their "owners."

Every now and then we hear of somebody being caught with a house or factory full of illegal immigrants being held as indentured servants. I don't think we have many of these there are in the US. Of course it is illegal.

Yes, they are called sweat shop workers. Forms of slavery show up as the extreem underpay for "non-legal" residents. Assuming since they can;t complain, or go home to thier countries for a number of ligitament reasons, that it is alright to treat them less them "legal" residents.
