The Billions weren't spent in "Making weed illegal", the vast majority of the all favorite amount of "Billions" is involved in enforcement. Usually with a drug seizure, they also get drug money, drug dealer cars for auctioning and drug dealer real estate for auctioning not to mention getting weapons held and used by criminals off the streets. A big chunk of drug enforcement is self-funded so get off the tax dollar soapbox. Make "weed" legal and then why not "a little coke" and hey, can't some people use heroin responsibly? No thanks, I'd rather not travel down that road!

Legalization will never happen under the current regime. People are too ignorant to realize personal responsibility trumps nanny-state protectionism in terms of personal freedom. Allowing the state to govern what you do to yourself(without infringing on the rights of others) is just short of totalitarianism.

Yeah, like teaching spelling and the money system in this country. It looks like you've smoked more than enough weed.

How could we make it safe??There are several reasons why it is illegal and it should continue to be illegal for the same reasons. Many weed smokers start with it and move to things that are more dangerous.

Agreed. But it was just a hand full of men that made it illegal (Harry Anslinger and a couple of southern senators). The billions and trillions that have been spent, were for keeping it illegal and punishing otherwise non-violent law abiding citizens.

Dude, I smoked it as a youngster and look what happened to my face!! Seriously though, there are a ton of reasons to not make it legal, the top one being that it is indeed addictive. I have seen weed addicts in rehab. It is not a pretty sight.

Bang! Bang! Bang!
(the sound of a head running into a brick wall)
You figure out a way for regulation and taxation of the product, I will guarantee that someone will find a way to make it legal.

Legalize it, tax it, grow it in a controlled situation to guarantee consistent quality. If something is legally available, then there is no longer profit for the illegal providers.
It seems to work for alcohol.
Go for it!
