Most places that have to special order items specifically state in the store... some also do it on the recipt. Normally they give you a instore credit. SO use that to purchase something that you would wear.... or just get the dress and go to prom with some of your girl friends.

It is very reasonable to give no refunds on a prom dress. Think how many people could say they ended up not going, when they DID, and they did use the dress. The real reason is that if the store had not put the dress 'back' for you, they may have sold it to someone. Prom dress type dresses are rarely in a store that will give refunds.

if it is posted at the register that they do not give refunds on special-occasion items, (and it should be on the receipt, as well), then the only recourse you may have is to go through with the purchase, or ask (nicely) if you can get store credit toward a future purchase.

if prom has not happened yet, see if one of your girlfriends from school wants to buy your dress in your stead...if so, you could offer her a deal, say she pays the remainder on the dress (to the store) and pays you 75% of what you've paid thus far....this way, everybody wins...the store gets the sale, your girlfriend gets her dress and you get (most of) your mney back

Go back and see if the sign is by the cash register or posted on the wall. IF it is then you are out of luck! It does not have to be on the register receipt.

Sounds like you jumped before you thought out what you really wanted. It might be a good idea to go buy the dress or your deposit is gone!

It should be on the sales slip, or on a paper you signed, try speaking to them in a calm but firm voice, do not get hysterical, and let them know that you will be in for the money, or that they will be hearing from your attorney soon....the only other thing i can tell you, is that if they altered the dress at all for you already, you can not get your money back

It has to be posted at the store not on the reciept.
