It's idea of the sercurity of a promise. When someone makes a promise to you, it usually comes with the idea that they won't break no matter what happens. And people often need that type of security to function.

A teacher of mine once said that you should not make anyone promise you anything because life can get in the way and cause that person to break it even if it's not their fault. And then you blame them. So don't make others promise things and don't expect them to make you promise anything in return.

That's mixing pineapples and berries my dear, you can accept someone for who they are and still not want then to do things in the future. Also people change so who you are today may not be who you are in 5 years. I'm not sure what your getting at but I see no relation between the two...

Even if you love someone for who he/she is, a promise is still a promise and has nothing to do with how you love someone.

I don't ask for promises, but other people may because everyone knows that people change over time. What these people don't recognize is that THEY change too. The best relationships are all about adapting and changing together.

I expect anyone that makes a promise to keep them, unless there is something that happens that wasn't foreseen such as going to the hospital. or other such emergency
I try not to promise anyone unless I intend to keep that promise

Acceptance & Expectations are two different things. To accept someone for who they are is a wonderful quality/trait to be able to give to antoher. Expectations are qualities and/or traits which you demand to receive from another.

Because our promises and committments ARE a part of who we are. You need to know other people's intentions in order to function in this world.

"i love you "is NOT a committment, "i love"+ sex is NOT a committment."I love you"+ sex+ shacking up is NOT a committment its one foot in the door and the other foot out ready to run at a moments notice. It's a relationship of convenience where one or both parties simply use the other to satify their desires until something "better" comes along."I do" is a committment and thats what people in love make to one another.
