I just can help but think of all the old sci-fi movies about evil aliens moving from planet to planet polluting them and sucking them dry of all their nutrients until finally they reach Earth.

lol I meant we are the aliens we used to make movies about. Think about it.... if we do someday land on this planet or any other planet we deem hospitable, and we do happen to find valuable resources are we really going to just leave them alone even if the planet is already inhabited by other "lower" lifeforms? It puts the whole thing into a new perspective doesn't it?

I wish they had given it a prettier name. I think we should launch a robot probe to go there right now. It won't get there until we're long gone, but if we wait, it will be even longer!

On the other hand, the conspiracist side of me says that the government knew it was there (and knows where lots of these planets are) and this is just one more step in getting us ready to accept domination of our alien overlords. :)

Good luck! :)

The sucker is about 300° Fahrenheit. If aliens were moving around destroying planets, we would notice their drive trails. If they were so advanced that they could zip around the universe unseen or undetected even by our primitive instruments, they would have noticed all the crap our planet is emitting and have come to wipe us out or enslave us already.

Be realistic haha.

I suspect that the planet will be found to be like Mars or Venus; the right size and location for possible life, but still dead. Naturally dead, not killed by evil aliens.

We should send bacteria as our initial landing force and see if it manages to wipe out the entire planet.

I think this is a wonderful find. I don't believe we will get many answers in our lifetime but it opens doors for future generations to come.

Why such a big deal ? It may not even have an atmosphere and if you jumped on the shuttle, it would take you 800,000 years to get there. Nobody's going there.
