The most recent link between birds and dinosaurs can be found in Science magazine. Researchers analyzed preserved tissues from a Tyrranosaurus rex and discovered that a particular protein in T. rex is very close to the same protein in modern birds. Apart from yet another bit of strong evidence in support of the theory of evolution, this is a direct link between birds and dinosaurs.

It's also just plain cool that anyone could get protein out of a T. rex. Considering what a chicken would look like after a year in your refrigerator, getting good tissue from a 68-million-year-old T. rex is something special.

Many intermediate forms between reptiles and birds have already been found in fossil beds, such as those of archaeopteryx, sinosauropteryx, and others like bipedal, feathered running dinos. These animals lived in the later dinosaur periods and just before we have any evidence of true birds. Their physical characteristics show a true blending of reptilian and avian traits, even to the microscopic level, when the growth patterns of the bones are examined. Many of the reptiles of that lineage also show signs of development of warm-blooded metabolisms, too.

Oh, and snakes etc always "taste like chicken"!

I think birds and reptiles are cousins like humans and chimpanzees are cousins. Both birds and reptiles are descended from dinosaurs, but each went in a different direction after the separation.
