I went to try & get approved for medi-cal, the social worker approved me but put me on a "share cost" plan, meaning, I am basically a cash paying patient. My "share cost" is 1700, and I have to pay a co-payment plus pay for every procedure done to me at the doctors, including ultra sounds. I have no problem paying the co-payment but everything else I cannot afford.

I spoke to my ob/gyn about this and said that was wrong, I tried speaking w/ the social worker again and she is not approving me for anything else.

I only make 430 a week, the father is not in the picture, I pay rent along with other bills....I don't know what to do!!

Is the social worker screwing me over?????

social worker is totally screwing you over! ive seen people that have thier own businesses and making thousands of dollars a month and can afford healthcare but theyre on medi-cal!

We recently lost our medical benefits when my hubby lost his job. He just got a new one and is only making about 1000 a month. Im a stay at home mom with 2 infants, pay 850 rent + bills and Medi-cal only approved my 5 month old son for benefits! What a joke huh!! I'd go back in their and put my food down if I were you because frankly thats a load of b/s!

I'm not sure where your from, but seems like most states would have the same type of assistance. Pregnant women I think are automatically supossed to be approved for Medicaid. At least that's the way it is where I am from. I'd would find your state's government website and look for any information about requirements regarding state assisted insurance.

What about your work? Do you have insurance available through your place of employment?

That's how my blue cross is.
Except I pay $1,500 upfront for my pre-natal appts. (and then 30% of the remaining bill after that)
and I have to pay $1,500 upfront for the ER visit (and then 30% of that remaining bill).
Mine's going to cost me a minimum of $3,000!
*I'm not sure how medi-cal works, but you can always try and get a different case worker? or contact one of their 800 numbers and talk to someone.
*Hopefully, they will let you make payments.

good luck! God bless!

$430 a week is considered a high income when it comes to medical...thats why your on the share plan, its not that your social worker wont approve anything else, its that your income is too high for her to approve anything else according to the guidelines.

Write to your Senator. They will add your letter to the piles of thousands of other people who believe they are entitled to more than they are already getting from the government.

If you weren't financially prepared to have a baby, you should have waited.

sounds like you are not getting the pregnant medicaid that you should have, I would demand to speak to some body else in the department.
