It is true there are many girls who start wearing them when they are in 6th grade! Heck I knew a 2nd grader who had some thongs. Honestly its just underware. I say let her wear them shes 16! Once you're "allowed" to wear thongs its not as exciting anymore. Like I was allowed to wear them when i turned about 14 and by the time I was 15 it wasnt exciting to wear a thong anymore. and just because i was wearing thongs didnt mean i was sexually active and i didnt go around showing people. its just a way of her feeling more "grown up" and in a way you feel left out when all the other girls your age get to have something and you don't. She's in highschool now and she jnust wants to feel more grown up its completely normal

I Was Always Told That Until I Could Afford To Buy My Own Clothes, I Had To Wear The Cotton Briefs My Mom & Dad Bought Me.
Grade 9, I Got A Babysitting Job And Went To Walmart And Bought My First 5-Pack Of Cotton Thongs...lol...I Was 13 In Grade 9... And At First I Was Only Wearing Them Under Dresses For Going To Dances And Stuff...
Keep In Mind That It's Not Always A Sexual Thing, Sometimes It's A Self-Image Thing Too.. That's What It Was For Me Anyways... I Didn't Have Sex Until I Was 17

Wearing a thong will not make her any more likely to have sex. It sounds like she is just trying to fit in and lot of girls in high school do wear thong underwear, so when they are changing clothes in the locker rooms, maybe she feels embarrassed that her underwear is different. I remember the locker rooms in 9th grade when I was that age 7 years ago, and lots of girls were wearing thongs then, so I am not surprised that she says all the girls are wearing them now. If that kind of underwear is what she's most comfortable wearing, let her have them.

Thongs do not always pertain to something sexual. Personally I find them way more comfortable than other underwear. If she is sexually active, she is going to have sex whether or not she is wearing a thong. Maybe you and her father should talk to her about it. Most girls now days are having sex at the age of 16. She's not a little girl anymore and you shouldn't be treating her like one. Instead of treating her like a little girl, treat her like an adult and trust her. She's already rebelling by taking thongs from her mother's. Just wait until it gets worse.
I started wearing thongs at about 16 and my parents never said a word to me about it. The only reason they knew was because my mother did my laundry. If she had said anything to me, and threw them out, I would have just started doing my own laundry and bought more.
Oh and I didn't have sex until I was 18.

I'm 20 now and past the age where my parents decide things like this for me, but we did go through this issue when I was in high school.
the rule my parents had for me was that I could wear whatever underwear I wanted as long as no one would see it. I think that is a very good rule because honestly if she's going to have sex, she will do it no matter what type of underwear she is wearing. There also are benefits to wearing a thong, like not having panty lines, which would draw attention to that area and possibly be more sexual because of it.
If I were rasing a daughter, I would be more concerned about things like short skirts, see through shirts, low rise pants and stuff like that rather than underwear as these are what people are doing to see on a daily basis.
If you still decide it's not okay, explain your side of the arguement in a calm fashion, not in a defensive or controlling way. Explain that she is precious and that she doesn't have to resort to dressing in an immodest way to get guys' attention and that she can dress in a flattering matter without dressing in a 'sexy' way.
I also think you need to pick your battles, if you are too controlling about what she wears she will continue to rebel and ignore the rules, but if they are fair and sensible rules then she is more likely to follow them.

i started wearing them in the 8th grade, i was 14. now im 15 and in the 9th grade and still wear them. but i don't think every one in the 9th grade wears them a lot of the girls at my school that are in 9th grade do though. so why is your 16 year old in the 9th grade she should be in 10th or even 11th.. any way id say 16 is fine you should let her wear them. wearing them isnt gonna make her have sex. ive been wearing only thongs for a bout a year now and im still a virgin..they go under your clothes, no one else sees them so you don't have to worry about guys wanting to have sex with her for wearing one

I have 5 daughters..and i dont like the idea of thongs either, but i have learned the more you say "no" , the more likely they will keep trying to get them...If it is for the right reasons like hiding underwear lines then i say ok...my 16 year old wears them and she does not wear them on the days she has low jeans or a short shirt. as long as i cannot see them when she leaves i dont have a problem...I think there are many more things to spend time disputing these days than underwear..Pick your battles and let the little ones go ...
