Find a number that goes into both 12 and 30.

Divide the numerator and denominator by that number.

As I look at it, I see that the number 6 goes into both.

You always divide the top and bottom numbers by the same number. E.g. 2 quarters (2/4) is the same as a half (1/2). Just divide both by 2. The same goes for huge fractions. There is no perfect, super fast way to do it. It's just about looking for patterns and dividing as much as you can. I can see almost immediately that the 1st 2 are 3/4 and 2/3 without even thinking about them. Now the 3rd one is bigger. Can you see both numbers end in 5 or 0? That means both numbers are divisible by 5, so do that! The 4th fraction: can you see both numbers end in 0? That means you can divide both by 10. Then you are left with 2 even numbers, so you know right away you can divide by 2. When you've divided by 10, 5 and 2 as much as you can, and you aren't sure if you can go further, then you can divide by 3, 4, 5 etc. all the way up. The key is to try to divide the smallest number. If you can't divide the smallest number, then you know you can't divide the bigger one. Be careful when you reach the end though. If you get 7/49, then you think "oh I can't divide 7 by anything" then you've failed :)

We realize the top and bottom have a great common factor of 6. (12 and 30 are both divisible by 6.) So, to reduce the fraction, simply divide the top and bottom by 6 to get 2/5. This cannot reduce anymore, so you're done!
