log(12) = log(2*2*3) = 2*log2 + log3 by log laws
= 2*(0.4307) + 0.6826
= 1.544

The rule you need to use is:

log(a*b) = log(a) + log(b)

(the log of a product of two numbers, is the same as the sum of the logs of the numbers)

log_(5)12
= log_(5){2*2*3}
= log_(5)2 + log_(5)2 + log_(5)3
= 0.4307 + 0.4307 + 0.6826
= 1.544

log_(5) 12 = log_(5) 2^2(3)

= 2log_(5)2 + log_(5) 3

= 2(0.4307) + 0.6826

= 0.8614 + 0.6826

= 1.5440
