When thinking about Egyptian art, most people refer directly and only to the great achievements of the pyramids. Indeed this architectural accomplishment is undoubtedly one the greatest piece of art in which truly demonstrates the various fields of elegance the ancients had. However, this is not the only remarkable piece of art throughout the history of Egyptian art. Other astonishing accomplishments are tomb architecture, temple architecture, sculpture, relief sculptures and paintings, pottery, faience, glass, etc

When ancient Egyptian art is placed along side other art of roughly the same period or shortly there after, the most noticeable thing is that the painted art is very flat (not shadowed for 3D effect), that standard costumes and headgear are used that signify position, that the size of the figure indicates their importance (the Pharoah is 4 times as big as the queen and 8 times as big as the prince), that the poses are poised not relaxed, and that most of the faces are not personal but standardized. Early Minoan and Greek art shared the flatness but gradually escaped the stereotyped faces. Eastern Orthodox art retained much of the flatness in icons, etc. Later Greek and Roman art became more realistic.
