No special reason, just the choice of the inventor perhaps! Yeh, there could be another interpretation - while playing tennis - day or night - the ball shot and flying fast in yellow green color becomes easily visible to the players in bright sun light or artificial light at night or night-like situation (when the sun is not bright )! Maybe you have noticed some road signs have the same color to draw the attention of drivers at night!

I don't know the history behind tennis or tennis balls, but my own personal belief is that they were colored the way they are due to the contrast against the sky and a typical tennis courtyard. Other colors have since been made that are even more bold (neon), building on the ease for the human eye to see it.

Human eye is most sensitive to the green light. However, often the game is played on grass court. A green ball on green grass will be difficult to see.
The next best is yellow green (sort of fluorescent) which can be seen easily.
I think this is the reason.
I admit I never thaught about this before.!!!!!!!!
