Please, only people who went into labor around this same situation. I dont want to hear any more "I didnt go into labor until 5 more weeks....."
okay, well, Im 36 weeks, and went to the doctors yesterday. I am 1cm dialated and 80% effaced. He said I could go anytime, and def. before my due date. (may 21st) He has been a gyn for over 25 years, so I really think he knows what hes talking about. So how long after this stage did it take you to go into labor? Im having bad cramps. But not contractions. Thanks for your answers!

it all varies on your body, the baby and nature. but chances are you will be having baby soon due to you being effaced at 80%. you may be having mild contractions but those contractions can also be the ones to dilate you. my hard contractions didn't come until i was 6-7 cm. all the others were like period cramps and i just walked through them! get prepared you will know in your instincts when it's time but your soon. GOOD LUCK!

Hi, I just read your post and Im 31 weeks pregnant, I am 80% effaced and dilated 2 right now.
I was put on bed rest but if you have other children you'll know thats not going to happen LOL
I also had a pos. FFN test twice, and I want to know the same thing.
If its near or still looking at weeks away, I guess I wouldnt worry if I was 36 weeks, but as early as I am I hope she holds off a few more weeks anyway.
Are you having any pain? I have alot of bh and real ones that go into my back and my insides feeling like they are going to fall out, how about you?

I was 1 cm already at 36 weeks, I was 75% effaced then to. I also had lots of bad cramps, just sucked cause they were supposedly braxton hicks. I didn't deliver my son til at 39 weeks 4 days I decided to take castor oil. So I don't actually know when my body would have naturally put me into labour, but probably til not after 40 weeks. Good luck!

like your dr said anytime now....i was 1 cm and only 25% effaced at 37 weeks well not even a week later i went to the dr for a regular appt on on the weight scale my water breaks (meanwhile i had NO contractions) we rush me in2 the office my dr comes in and im at 5 cms!!! needless to say a half hour goes by my contractions start strong and steady within another hour i deliver my daughter!! now thats fast unexpected labor!! so you can go anytime especially being that far effaced....just be ready from now on because it can come out of nowhere and i think i hold the record for the fastest labor and delivery! good luck!

Very soon!

I effaced before I dilated too. It was forever (at 21/2cm - 3cm for almost 2 weeks) I think what got things going for me was a cervical check. The nurse "tickled" something (it hurt, I won't lie). They said all was fine, sent me home and said "see you very soon"
Within a few hours I was having contractions and a leaking "bag of waters". Had my daughter by 2:30 the next morning.
I never did fully dilate until I had my epidural, then everything happened really fast!

Good Luck!!

Honey, all those stories of how long need to be taken into account. As for me, with my second, I was having contractions and dilated to 2cm, 90% throughout the 36th week. I didn't go into labor until the 37th week. I would walk around or maybe invite the hubby to bed, that will sometimes get things moving. Best wishes.

this answer changes for everyone! You caould easily go tomorrow or be 9 days overdue (like i was, and i was 3 cms dialated and 80%effaced from 7 months on) I know you don't want to hear it but if all you want is sucess stories then you will be dissapointed if you go overdue! relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. no matter how long a dr is a dr...he still can't predict when you will go into labor.
congrats on the baby

I don't know how long it could take but just to let you know cramps can be a sign of labor! I never had what people say contractions feel like. When I had my daughter I had cramps like I was going to start my period. Good luck!

I hate to say it but there is no absolute way of telling if you'll go into labor before your EDD. I know you must be anxious, but it's better if the baby comes out on time anyway. I was 3cm dilated and 75% effaced and the doctor told me the same thing.

sounds like you are really close. if you are getting "cramps", they may actually be the start of contractions. try squatting when you feel the cramps. this can encourage them to get stronger. if the "cramps" are regular, you may already be in early labor!! i had to be induced with both my sons, but have been a coach to 7 other babes being born, and squatting has been the most effective way to encourage labor.

good luck to you and your loved ones during this wonderful experience!! i hope you and your baby are healthy!!
