Rooney's Lightning Strike: It's not the first time I've been left wanting with ESPN's soccer analysis. (I watch from Canada.) But yesterday Tommy Smyth confused me again by claiming that Dida left too much room at the near post on the third and winning goal. It's a shame that Tommy saw it this way because his comments detracted from what I think is one of the smartest goals of the year by Rooney. Dida wasn't really to blame. The fact is that the goal went in because Rooney surprised the keeper, the defender marking him and everyone watching with a lightning quick decision to shoot. It wasn't even the speed of the shot itself but the speed of the decision that brought about United's late winner.

As a golie u r always taught that u cover your first post (i know its my position).
if they score on u because of a cross, thats not your fault, that is when its a good shot and good decision by the striker.
BUt, also Rooney had to see Dida's position, it was his decision to take advantage of Dida's bad placement.
Its a great goal for quick thinking.

Off Topic:
The First goal by Cristiano Ronaldo is Dida's fault also, on the corner kick he does nt go for the ball, he is 2 or 3 feet away from Cristiano's head but instead of going for the ball he waits for header. A golie his size shouldnt stay in place like he did, he has the reach to get any ball in the air.

Both of them, in my opinion. I mean, every keeper knows he must ALWAYS cover his near post. However, Wayne´s surprising strike didn´t give Dida much time to think. All in all, Rooney´s one of the best players in the world and yesterday´s performance was a clear example of it

I think it was horrid positioning from Dida, he should have guarded his near post a little better. Rooney was able to score precisely because Dida was off-position.

Rooney did seem to hit that quickly so I don't think Dida was at fault. I thought Dida could've saved it

It was an extraordinary goal. Dida may have been positioned badly but I doubt he had time to get his bearings.

It was definitly a bit of both, but I do think that it was more Rooney's good reaction. A nice goal, however.
