it certainly allows you to question the perceptions that you always took for granted. it allows you see things in a whole new way. forget the biology of it, as the people above have not done -- most likely b/c they've never tried it and are "good boys and girls" (although something tells me wildrice knows what's up). yes, it causes damage to your brain, surely (just about everything in life damages you in one way or another [the very o2 you breath is corrosive] -- the scale of that change is what matters -- everything in life is to a degree). but meanwhile, your resulting thought pattern, even though you may not be able to control it (and even better if you can), certainly is vastly different than it ever has been before and you continue to see the world through the lens of that skewness. it changes you, fundamentally. the difference btwn myself and these others is that i give those thoughts and experiences value.

i don't know what exactly you mean when you say "realms of your mind" -- i have my own ideas but perhaps they aren't the same as yours. that's the beauty of it. i don't think you can unlock hidden potential to move objects or start fires, as those don't exist to begin with. but, if you're trippin with a close friend or intimate other, you can experience an intense connection wherein you know what the other is thinking without having to actually speak. you can carry on entire conversations without needing many words. i'm not claiming any newfound psychic abilities (again, i don't belive in those), just, again, the acute difference in the perceptiveness of our interaction changes.

and what conversations you have will climb to levels that you never knew existed. you may reach higher planes of existence and grow in ways you never thought possible. you can experience intense revelations about the world and your place within in. about the meaning of life itself -- all presented in an atmosphere that is beautiful. you wouldn't believe what there is to talk about, or how many different ways there are of talking about it.

hopefully your experience with acid should help you define what's important to you, help you realize who you are and what you want from life, and see the world in a way that many people cannot see it -- for better or worse. i think people who have used acid and had life changing experiences as a result are often very good people. don't believe the stupid stories or "urban legends" -- it's just propaganda

think of the shamans and ancient medicine men -- eating pao de and becoming one with the natural world in ways completely foreign to westerners. you shouldn't assume that there was no reason for these communions, or that they were somehow frivilous or without meaning.

probably not what you had in mind, but there you have it

It scrambles your neurotransmitters. What paths you end up with at the end of the experience is a serious gamble. You may find "new realms of thought", but at what expense, what parts of your brain you may no longer have access to... It probably isn't worth the risk.

That's what the hippies would have you believe. What it really does is cause your brain to alter your perceptions. It definitely doesn't expand your mind -- it damages your brain and can cause permanent damage just from one use. Makes you want to rush out and try it, right?
