I am 35 weeks and 6 days pregnant. I have getational diabetes. I was able to diet and exercise control the diabetes until a couple of weeks ago. They decided to put me on Glyburide (sp?) twice a day. After my doctor called yesterday she wants me to take it 3x a day. My numbers are still high most of the time but then sometimes they get really low (60's) and I have to eat something to boost them so I stop shaking, sweating and my heart stops racing. Any advice? I eat snacks. When do you think she may induce? Why is this being such a problem for me? Thanks in advance!! :)

I have gestational diabetes also. Luckily thus far I've been able to control it with the diet also. I did notice when I first started the diet that I had to alter it a little. I'm not sure what time your snacks are but my last snack of the day was scheduled for 9:30 at night and I could have 30g of carbs. For me that didnt work. I had to eat just 15 of the carbs then and then eat the other 15 carbs a few hours later (during one of the many times I woke up to use the bathroom, usually around 2:30 am). If I didnt break them up my sugar would start to drop at night time and so my body would burn stored sugar to try and keep it from dropping too low. But when it burned stored sugar it sky rocketed way too high. I talked to my doctor before I made any changes to my diet though. You may have to alter your diet a little too. I'd talk to your doctor about it. Good luck!

You will go into labor when it is time, to keep your blood sugar stable you need to keep in mind how your body is working now. There isn't a lot of room in your stomach, so you can only eat a little at a time. You digestive system has slowed down in order to extract every last possible nutrient from your food to help the baby grow. Keeping these things in mind, your doctor should have told you to nibble on low-carb, low-fat and high-protein snacks all day. Try to shoot for a snack like a small slice of turkey with a bit of cheese every 20 minutes or so. Meals as you once new them will have to wait. Talk with your doctor or a dietician about how to eat. Delaying labor until is starts on its own is going to be preferable to inducing. Most women get a little anxious for labor to come already at your stage, it will be more so in your case. Just try to take it one day at a time, every day the baby can build some fat stores and the lungs can mature is a good day. Best wishes, good luck.

my mom has type 2 diabetis and when her sugar gets over 130 she will eat some peanut butter, it brings it down slower than the pills, sometimes if she dosen't eat enough with her pills then it will drop really quickly and she does like you do, about the inducing labor part if you should just call your doctor and ask her, any time my moms sugar drops below 100 she feels lowsy,Good luck and Congratulations on your baby. God Bless

Hope you hve an easy labor!
