... Now i hate Kobe Bryant as much as the next guy (mainly because of his fans) but cheering when he is down? I feel that its pretty arrogant, not to mention just about the most ignorant thing you can do. If you hate them or love them you still should not hope for someone to be injured, and cheering for them when they are fine is a sign of respect (even if they dont deserve it). All you are doing is showing yourself as being as bad a person as the person you hate (in this case maybe Kobe) My question is, what do you think about the subject? Is it OK to cheer when a player is down when you hate them? I just wanna hear both sides of the argument.

For the people who say it doesnt bother Kobe, i dont care if it bothers him. I am just saying that its classless and shows that you have no self restrain. Theres no excuse for cheering when someone is down even when you play on a "Professional" level. I mean is it that hard to show a little restraint? Even if you dont clap for him when he gets up, dont cheer when he goes down. I dont think theres any excuse for it but i still like hearing the arguments for both sides.

I agree with you and the word is un-sportsman-like. You shouldn't wish harm on anyone including you're rival team's biggest star. Why? Because I want my team to beat them and do it in a classy way. Unfortunately part of the Western philosophy is to win by all means, comparatively to the East philosophy that states respect your opponent, win or lose, the more skilled an opponent the better it is because it makes you rise to new levels in order to compete. However, I realize that people are sometimes idiots at these sporting events, whether their drunk or always an idiot is a question to be pondered on a different issue. It's similar to the fact that Santa Claus was booed in Philly, I mean who boos Santa Claus?

Now, I can sit here and answer the same way as everyone else, but I'm not going to. This isn't the Boys and Girls Club or the YMCA were everyone takes a knee when some one is down. This is an NBA playoff game. The same NBA were, for the majority of the time, the other team won't help you up from the floor after giving you a hard foul. And for the fans; to be in that arena when your team is kicking the crap out of the other team and playing one of the best games of the year, you're going to be a little amped. It's not like he went head first into the stands or got undercut while shooting and landed on his head. He had his foot stepped on. Kobe's a stud and I'm sure he can handle it. So... In this situation, I saw no harm done. Now, don't get me wrong. I've played sports my whole life and would never condone cheering a player when he's down, but I can't blame the fans in that situation with the high level of excitement that was going on in that arena.

Look I'm a huge Suns fan and I also personally was embarrased by the way the fans were cheering yesterday when Kobe got injured.
Yes he was a total jackass last year when he started talking crap about Raja, yes he is the best player in the NBA, yes he really pisses me off, but no I don't think its right people were cheering.
I understand they want the suns to win and want kobe to do crappy, but you don't cheer when another player is injured.
I honestly feel bad for Kobe when he has to play here in Phoenix. Everytime he touches the ball its boo's and a chant "KO-BE SUCKS, KO-BE SUCKS"
People here in AZ are just crazy over their Suns team as I am, but we need to have just a little more respect for the league and other players.

Basketball is a sport and all the personal issues should be left off the court. Cheering for someone's injury is like cheering when someone's loses a family member. It's very unsportsman like but then again look at the name that pops up with it, KOBE. He's good but his head is bigger than his game, and his team isn't doing anywhere near good enough for him to be holding himself so high.

cheering for an injury? no way! people who do that are human scumbags!! with no morals at all! rooting against them, like kobe? hell yes! i hate the lakers a,nd hope that kobe is swept in 4 straight by phoenix, but no way i want to see him hurt!! so you are 100% right! people who root for athletes to get injured need to be banned from attending games for life! i would put people like that in a wwe ring with the likes of the big show, at 500, or the undertaker so they can get their!!! asses kicked into the hospital!! see how they feel then!!!

I agree with you. I was watching the game last night when it happened. That just shows that Suns Fans that were cheering have no class, and I feel bad for the true Suns fans with class because stupid fans are now making you look bad. I hope everyone that was cheering breaks their ankle.

No it is not right to cheer when a player is hurt. Cheer when they throw up an air ball, when they trip over there own feet, even when they get taken out of a game but never when they get hurt.

I would of cheered hell yeah, I'm a big sports fan and i love my teams. So when i see another player hurt on the opposing team, that gives my team a better chance of winning, don't give me any of that BS of its wrong or arrogant. It ain't no life threaten injury its just a damn sprang ed ankle whoopty due. I due think it wrong though when it is very serious, like when the Philly fans cheered when Michael Irvin hurt his neck in that game and had 2 be rolled out .
On that note i hope Baron Davis tears his ACL MCL and all the CLs tonight Go MAVS Biatches!!!!!!

I think it is fine to root against someone or not like what they stand for. However, cheering anytime someone is injured shows you are a classless individual.

Agreed...they're still human beings, just doing their job. Cheering when someone gets injured is just bad karma and makes you look like an idiot. Just my opinion, but I'm right!
