I'm just curious about this becuz I used to deliver pizza a few years ago and sometimes I would deliver to Indian people's houses and the smell coming out of there house as I walked up to the door was pretty strong. Then when someone would answer the door, odor would literally make my eyes water and make me wanna fall over.
DON'T GET ME WRONG HERE, they were all really nice and good tippers too but I was just wondering why is there always a musky pungent smell on them (the ones I've been in contact with anyway) or their houses? Is it from the food / spices they eat or what?

For jballeri.... I put the disclaimer becuz if I hadn't alot of people would be calling me one and I'm not - I accept everyone and would never ever make anyone feel bad on purpouse. Just wanted to make sure no one got the wrong idea about my question. I was just curious as to where the smell was coming from.

Yes you're right it is the curry spice. There are different blends of curries, I'll bet they like theirs hot. The capsacian in the hot pepper is probably what stung you eyes. Of course it affects their body odor, and if you don't like the spice at all you won't like the smell on the body.
Even when I was a kid in the 60's (1960's not 1860's) people bathed once a week. Before that lack of indoor plumbing made it difficult to bathe often. We were not smelly, ('Ralphy boy' should know this) but by today's' standard any noticeable or even telltale scent of another human is supposedly offensive.. TV commercials advertising deodorants, foot powders etc, caused people to become self conscious of their body scents. So of course now we have little tolerance for odors.

All people have a smell and all cultures have acceptable ways of dealing with the odor humans produce naturally. You are used to what our Western culture does. Other cultures, such as Indians and Asians have a different standard and different practices. Some use oil and spices on their bodies. Some people in Europe don't believe in using deodorant. Until about 75 years ago, many people in the U.S. did not wear deodorant. It's just a different culture. They probably think we smell funny! :)
Good luck! :)

If you have to put a disclaimer in your question that you are not a racist, perhaps you should re-think asking your question. But to answer your question, EVERYONE has their own scent. Whether someone thinks it smells good or not is a matter of personal opinion. Personal scents can be related to what a person bathes in, how much they sweat, what type of deodorant they use, what they wash their clothes in, etc. Now, what you may have been smelling is Curry. A lot of people from India use it in their foods, and it is a smell that you are either going to like or not going to like.

Spices or other foods, can emit an odor from a person that ate it, like garlic, onions, the smell comes out through the pores of your body, you can't wash it off.
Kimchi is another smelly food, it is Korean and made from aged cabbage, very healthy but emits a bad odor as well.

Not all of them smell.
Body odor has to do with what you eat. People from India are used to eat really spicy elaborat food, with strong flavours. That could explain it. But everyone who ate like this would smell.
Its not an Indian thing.

Everybody smells... That is why God gave us noses. LOL
It is usually what a person cooks and eats that gives them an odor. But I believe you are over generalizing. I have come in contact with people from India that did not have any discernable odor.

I think the others are right about the spices they cook with. Eat too much garlic and that stuff sweats out your pores as well.
