Hi , tomatoes need plenty of sun and is best grown in full sun.
They love rich soil so when planting add a handful of well rotted manure, a small hand full of bone-meal and 1 teaspoon of Epsom salt. and add shredded newspaper to the hole this helps with holding water for them.
Also when planting take and bury just below the first set of true leaves. They will then grow extra roots which make them stronger. Mulch the ground around your tomato's but not right up to the stem. Place tomato cages around them at the time of planting this way you will not harm any roots.
Space them well apart for air to move in and around them.
If you smoke make sure you wash your hands before working in the garden tobacco causes a blight in tomatoes.
Hope this has helped and happy gardening.

Tomatoes require sun, at least 14 hours. Semishade must be light on the shade and then only for a couple of hours. Curiously, we get better control from leafhoppers if we grow tomatoes under shadecloth or even widow screen. That small amount of shade is not enough to discourage growth (in our super high light/high UV climate) but does discourage the insects. Go figure.

They like the sun and lots of water.
If you are in Florida, most of the gardens there are sand...that is not the best for the tomatoes, however I have seen fields of tomatoes down there.
So I would fertilize, water regularly and being in Florida, maybe a little shade would not hurt during the high noon hours...just to be safe.

Check with the place you buy them from. Most tomatoes thrive in direct sunlight, but some prefer a little afternoon shade on the hotter days. I have always had better luck with direct sunlight, but make sure not to plany them like up against a building. The building holds heat and it will stun them and they won't grow right. Make sure to water them early in the morning before it gets hot and late in the day after it cools down some.

8 hours of sun a day is enough. More is ideal, but 8 hours will be plenty to give you some relief from those $5 a pound store bought cardboard tasting tomatoes.

They normally grow in full sun. I had a problem though when I lived in Florida. seems I watered them too much and they exploded. I found some shade screen at a Nursery and mounted it above the plants. this gave them sun early and late but not at noon. Seemed to work better. I also watered at night (although they say not to) and the plants seemed to grow better.

Tomatoes love sun and lots of it! but, they also like lots of water. to cut down on how much you need to water, try mulching with grass clippings or even old newspaper.
