I want to copy/backup my data on a DVD+R disk but problem is that my computer is not detecting the disk. It keeps on saying insert disk. It is detecting CDs (if i insert a blank CD) but not this DVD. My laptop is HP Compaq nx6110 and i have TSSTcorp CDW/DVD TS-L462C
If i buy DVD-R disks will it work?

HP has, for as long as I have known, used crappy optical drives in their systems. It doesn't suprise me that this TSSTCorp (an obviously cheapie brand) does not work well or recongnize your media. You may be able to upgrade the firmware for that drive (check HP's website for drivers/software updates for your model) or you would be better off purchasing a real brand external burner (especially for burning DVD's as your combo drive is probly only a DVD reader) like Pioneer or Lite-On (I wouldn't recommend Sony).

It looks like you have a combo drive that is a CD burner, but the DVD is read-only.

So you can not burn DVDs of any type.
