Private Colleges do have a higher price tag, but they offer a lot of private financial support that is not available in the public sector. For instance, scholarships based on your religion, community or fraternal involvement, academic or talent ability. I went to a private college that worked hard to recruit international students and to make the tuition affordable based on the economic status of the student's country. I live in WI. There is a foundation for WI Private Colleges. You will have to do investigating to find what types of recruitment practices will align with your interests. Good luck!

Look into public, or "state" universities, they are always less expensive than private universities, and you can get an excellent education there. I know of US citizens who move to a state where they want to go to college, work for a few months and establish residency in that state, then apply to the state university. Really not sure if this works as an international student, because you'd need a student visa, I think.

You can try applying to Cooper Union, New York. They give full scholarships to students who are admitted.
