Hi, i have been depressed for a long time on and off but this time it just wont shift. i feel like i have nothing to look forward to, cant make a decision about my relationship and just feel so tired, numb and in another world.

I did go to my gp a few years ago but all i got was prozac but they didnt help at all. I really dont want to go back to her. In my herbal book it suggests fish oils, st johns wort, 5HTP, but it would cost me a fortune on all that.

Can anyone recommend a good product and also idea on best place to buy it as believe that some shops sell herbs etc that are poor quality and a waste of money.
Thanks
xx

I was sick and tired of being onmeds for my depression so I checked out a nutrition guy that my friend at work had used and it has been great. He took a lot of info from me over the phone, sent me some samples based on my condition and my meds and then got me started with a good nutrient filled diet and some supplements. the supplements were actually cheaper than some of the food i was buying so I didnt spend any more money than I already was. He told me it would be a gradual process and he was right, but over a few weeks I had a lot more energy and just felt a little happier, I cant explain why exactly but I did. Then after about five months I felt so good that I went to see my doctor and slowly came of my meds, I had been on them for about three years. I no longer use any medication and the products I used were all natural, some shakes and some tablets. Try www.myhealthabc.com, the site is mostky about weight loss but the nutritionist guy there is great and he will advise you on what would be best. You can get his advice for free too!! and he helped me with my diet for nothing. I would highly recommend this guy and the products he recommends. Good luck.

Know how you feel, I needed anti depressants and counselling to deal with my depression. Natural remedies are fine up to a point, if you have a fairly 'light' depression, and the one I have heard the best about is St Johns Wort, I tried it myself but needed the stronger stuff. Try a place like Holland & Barrat. Just make sure that you get it from a reputable place as you never know what goes into herbal remedies if they aren't from proper places.

Also make sure you have a good diet and get some excercise, it really helps.

If you're talking about depression and not just feeling cheesed off the best cure is exercise.

Physical exercise releases chemicals into the bloodstream which are almost identical to anti-depressants.

Unfortunately sex may not be a good way of taking exercise, because of the emotional baggage that comes along with it - and let's face it, sex that is devoid of emotion is worse than eggs without salt.

Exercise, its the best remedy for depression and also improves your cognitive thinking, releases endorphins that will create a over all feeling of happiness and vigor. your body will improve its internal functions as well as a good looking glow, and when you look good you feel good. confidence and sense of accomplishment from the efforts with build self esteem and you will be in full charge of your mind and life as a result. best of all its free! go to the park(many have a exercise course that you follow along a trail and do a different exercise at each stop. i myself have done that for many years we called it a PAR course) walk a dog, join a mall walking club for free and meet others to help motivate you ( its indoors so great climate and you get to see the sales before the mall opens to public shopping as the walks are usually done 1-2 hours prior to the mall hours of operation ). so go smell some roses, have fun, good luck and be good to yourself. Carpe Diem!

I can only relate my own personal experience. After years of depression that came and went, sometimes mild, sometimes severe, a friend recommended "The Mood Cure" by Julia Ross. I got a copy at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/104-2780009-9045526?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=The+Mood+Cure&Go.x=11&Go.y=9&Go=Go
They are an excellent source for buying new and used books at a reasonable price. Shipping is usually $3.49. Invest in yourself.

The solution that worked for me was to find the correct dosage of 5 htp (she tells you how to do this in the book). I ended up using 400 mg a day in divided doses. I found it was more effective when I used it with tryptophan. I buy my products at SwansonVitamins.com where the prices are low and products are good.

I would never use the prescription drugs for Depression from all the horror stories I've heard about them.
I highly recommend you get the book. It will be well worth the investment and it will make you a knowledgable user.

I hope you can find the answers you need.
