This is a question for my ancient history uni course, i'm just looking for a few ideas to help me with my essay. Thanks!!

Justify?
It was not necessary to justify anything. Conquest and subjugation was (at that time) the perfectly natural thing to do (it still is for some societies- eg islam) . ROme existed because of the slaves it brought from these conquered lands. Some thinkers (eg Cicero) simply referred to slaves as "talking tools"

I think it was much the same as the Europeans colonizing the rest of the world. The Romans were bringing civilization and the "light of Rome" to the rest of the world.

Rome shared her peace with all countries (they only thought they were being invaded by Rome).
