One key thing at 13, was reading/studying on my own electronics, learning the symbols, what they meant, learning about electronics. Finding that sucess in one area gave me confidence and finding similarities in other things, transfer that into other sucesses, into a hobby of specialized knowledge, and eventually a career with a stint in the USAF, tech school, and electronics repair, sales, tech support. Self study has been the key to continued lifetime learning.

The event that made me get serious was birth of my child, when I was 24, I went back to college night school the day before she was born. That was a lot of years of night school. Responsibility provided the drive to get going again.

Getting married at the age of 16. That alone was enough to made me grow up. I lived a very good sheltered childhood---talk about a rude awakening.

Then having my first child at 18. Makes you grow up fast.
