Like the others said... what is considered "masculine" & "feminine" are essentially social constructs... men & women are 98% the same...

Every human being has both male and female charateristics -- the ying & yang if you will. Based on hormonal levels, as well as chromosonal structure at conception, an individual is either male or female in nature and as such present their predominant genetic make up, i.e. male or female.

Todays society has evolved to the point where gender transformation is possible surgically. In addition to this possibility, society has accepted men who are openly feminine and women who are openly masculine. Personally, I think individuals who are physically male, but "feel" more like a woman, or a female who "feels" more like a man, has a genetic malformation. Since this type of occurance seems greater than in other historical times, I think there may be some environmental hazard that causes this malformation. But, regardless of the cause of gender identity issue, these people have a lot of emotional, societal, psychological, and spiritual problems to face. To neutralize the genders entirely, would make us into a society of "robots". I do not think it would be good for our world nor for the human race. Vive le differance!

Is gender neutralization really happening? I'm the first to argue that men and women have some essential differences in the way they think - in the aggregate. But every individual is just that, individual.

We get to choose what strengths we project and what we want to expose. To be able to do so without conforming to social 'norms' or bending to societal censure would be great, but I really don't see that happening now or in the future.

So, I don't agree that society is doing anything at the moment except holding certain norms of behavior over and above other norms. People are more and less masculine and feminine according to their genetics. Environment simply constricts those behaviors that are deemed unacceptable.

Peace

I have to challenge the very idea of gender neutralization. There is no doubt that society defines our Masculinity and Femininity but the biological ties to our gender cannot be broken. My masculinity has been influenced from my birth but my gender from the moment of conception. I strongly feel that while masculinity and feminism ARE social constructs there are certain fundamental elements which are taken from our biological gender. These elements cannot be erased or even neutralized.

Neither, because we are all One to begin with. We already have feminine male types and masculine female types, we usually are not aware of it. Check out the book Human Types, or even astology books for more on this. Some of this is probably camouflaged in the Bible, but I wouldn't know.

I don't see the good in it because women should be proud to be women. A woman should be paid the same as a man. A woman should have the opportunities a man has without compromising her gender.

There is a difference between trying to become like a man to do what a woman wants to do and being a woman in her own right and be who she was created to be.

The neutralization of genders will destroy the uniqueness of man and woman.

Its a very good thing. Men can no longer be the macho gunslinger they were and women can no longer tend only to the children. As our society reacts to the economies demands (more than 70% of the workforce is in the service industry) more demands are made for competence be it male or female.

This is not something which is a "good or bad" question, or has a "good or bad" answer. It can be and is both. In many ways both have been and are both "good" & "bad".... but a more simplistic and realitstic term to use would be "positive" & "negative" not "good or bad".

Both have many qualities which are or can be positive, to individuals as well as overall or collectively. But compensation in one form or another must be paid to fill the void left by altering which was, priviously. The type of compensation, how its perceived, how much and how placed determines a positive or negative end result.

gender neutralization is not more common it is just more talked about. but the feminization of males is simple (don't get me wrong) men act the way a woman needs them to for them to get laid. We are pigs, I am OK with that.

I think the ideas of what is masculine or feminine are mostly social constructs. I'm sure my great, great grandmother who worked every day on the farm could kick the crap out of most men these days, yet she still had no voting rights and was expected to raise the children.

Nature knows and provides for the middle sex as necessary... our adding to that population is meaningless. Conversion assumes as though male and female psyche has to be in a given fixed mold, which is neither true nor necessary!!
