Is it me? Or are there a disturbing amount of people asking stuff like "what oil should I use" and "what tyre pressure" in the auto secton?

Don't people read handbooks anymore? Are people these days just lazy?

Probably a combination of lazy, or they have never had the responsibility of caring for a new car before, or they took one look at the 300pp manual, and decided this would be easier. I think cars are a mystery to alot of people.

It's the old saying 'if at first you don't succeed, refer to the manual'!

As cars become more complex and sophisticated it's more important than ever though that owners at least familiarise themselves with the manual - your previous experience with an older car or different make may not be entirely relevent to your current car.

The warning lights, fluids, tyres and bulbs sections are particularly important.

- not all cars use the same antifreeze for example and the different types can't be mixed,
- some warning lights require you to stop immediately, some allow you to drive on (visit a dealer as soon as possible though)
- how do you change a bulb or adapt headlights for european driving?
- what's the same roof loading or towing limit?
- what tyre pressures are recommended?
- How should you install child restraints?
- folding/adjusting seats may be much easier if you follow the handbook advice.

All cars are supplied as new with a handbook. If you're offered a secondhand car and there's no handbook, ask yourself why - they do get lost or mislaid, but it could be a clue that the car's stolen or that it was imported with a foreign language handbook.

yes, there are a lot of people that do not read the handbooks, myself included, i think it is because people are just lazy and if anything goes wrong they know they can take it it a garage to get it fixed, even though they know it will blow a hole in their pocket! it would be perfect if people read their handbooks wouldnt it but im afraid we dont live in a perfect world!

I dont think people are being lazy - most cars come with a handbook the size of an encyclopedia and only refer to it when there is something wrong with the car!!

My car didn't come with a handbook and being a self confessed dizzy blonde i wouldn't have a clue about stuff like that. For me its not laziness and the people on here have helped me alot!

Seems to me that the majority of car owners nowadays feel that all they need to do is put that smelly stuff in the backside of the car, pay the bill and life is good. They treat vehicles as they would a counter top microwave... Use it until it dies, then buy a new one.

you hit the nail on the head so to speak, they are just lazy, a product of being raised with an entitleist mentality, as in everyone, anyone is responsible for what i need and want EXCEPT ME, when there is a screw up it is everyone's fault but MINE, if i ask or let someone else do it for me, if its right i take credit, if its wrong i can blame them.

they are stupid for the life of me i cannot figure out why people remove the manual from their cars.

I see some of the dumbest questions in this section
like how to figure gas mileage? or how much gas will it take? wheres the fuse panel? how to jackup my car? where do i put the oil? washer fluid? what weight oil? how much?

I think we are alone here

Because they are too busy playing with the stereo , CDS and talking on the damm cell phone.
They are real good at causing two other vehicles to get into an accident and keep on talking on that cell.

My guess there unneeded repairs rendered their pockets empty so they had to sell the book on ebay so they could make more unneeded repairs.

And all they really needed were new muffler bearings -- go figure.

LOL-------- at them !!!!!!
