In some cases yes, this is true. That is a good thing, it is good to know that they are thinking of others and not just themselves. They know that they have reasons for living, and will not follow through. Having that will save them from harming themselves and those they love.
I also believe that people in that situation feel like they are trapped and have no way to escape the predicament they are in. They feel cornered and defenseless, and the only way out would be to die. Buy they don't really want to die, they just don't want to live the life they have, they were not able to, for what ever reason, control enough of their lives, and it wasn't as successful as they had hoped.
Choosing not to commit suicide is characteristic of bravery and fortitude. It takes a lot to be able to admit you've made a mistake and make right the wrongs in ones life. I commend them and encourage them to keep on truckin'. That which does not kill us only makes us stronger.

I think there could be various reasons. If I were to think of taking my life, I would first think of the suffering I will leave behind for my family, and never take that step. In a way, suicide could be a selfish act.
Also, we all have a survival instinct in us that doesn't let us take that step.
Plus, a certain hope that life will show us something better and beautiful tomorrow. That if not today, we will be happier tomorrow.

No. Those may be used as excuses for not following through with it but are not valid reasons. If anyone wants to end it all in such a way they will, it doesn't or wouldn't matter what may result from their actions. If they wish to end their OWN life, do you really believe they'd give a s**t about those types of things???? LOL Besides that, there's many ways of going about it which no physical pain to them is involved.

Yes. Some people fear physical pain more than having to face their problems. Also, the idea of leaving your family behind just like that is unbearable.

Um, yes? I can be an example. I live in pain everyday because of progressive diseases, and I'd rather be dead than feel pain for long periods of time. But I don't want to hurt my family by committing suicide. So I live.

Yes. This is sometimes referred to as "Suicide by Cop". They choose to let law enforcement do the job and take responsibilities.

I think they aren't sure about God and finally realize He is either there or not. They can't DECIDE God is real or that He's not. God just IS!! And they don't want to jump from the boiling pot into the fire.
