just get a few and see what it looks like if they have plenty of room to move around then it should be ok. I would put some pretty tetras in with them they go good together.

Please ignore all of the 1 fish per gallon or even 1" of fish per gallon "rules". This line of thinking leads to disasters in tanks everyday. It really depends too much on too many other factors to ever apply such overly simplistic rules to fishkeeping. You could have 2 platys in the tank. I would suggest 2 males so that babies wouldn't become an issue in the future.

general rule is one inch for one gallon of water. Adding live plants and/or an air stone can increase the number of fish in the tank. NEED lots of oxygen for happy fish. If it were me I would put like 4-6 fish. Platies don't get very big. just remember that they are live bearers and you will soon have many more then your tank can hold. Hope this helped.

You should have one inch of fish per gallon. That keeps you from overcrowding your tank. it's probably even better to have a few gallons left over to leave room for their growth.

Rule of thumb is one fish per gallon....five gallon tank equals five fish. You can squeeze an extra one or two in, but I wouldn't put more than that.
