Nah, we take better care of our illegal immigrants than we do our own citizens. Great country huh?

You said 'Straving' twice.
I like that. I thought the first was a typo. Two in a row is kind of awesome. Such a serious topic for straving!
I work in a school in a really depressed area. The kids all walk around homeless people every day just to get to school. There are gangs here. I have tons of kids with parole officers, and there was a shooting one block away a few months ago. We're not fighting a civil war, but there is much work to be done. Awareness is a good first step.

It may not be a pleasant thought but THESE CHARGES YOU BRING FORWARD are NOT dirty little secrets. Anyone in the world with any intelligence above the moron level knows these things happen. What do you consider to be the reason for all these "dirty little secrets"? The government? NO because the welfare expenditures have increased in the past 7 years. The churches and charitable people? NO because they continue to try to help the less fortunate. The victims themselves? Not all of them but some of them have just made bad decisions (which is their fault) and do not want to be helped for one reason or another. Some are DEMANDING help which is a little callous in a capitalistic system.

Much more than you think. I volunteer at mission near my work and it never ceases to amaze me the number of homeless people from all walks of life that come there for food or shelter during bad storms. The numbers keep growing not getting smaller. Families with children, military, people that have had a bad run of luck. If the people that posted stated that they don't see this in America then they have not put themselves in a position to see.

I wouldn't say a civil war, just a class war. It's true. I see homeless vets everyday, the infant mortality rate is on the rise, there is less and less affordable housing, the working middle class no longer has health car. Even the Chairman of the Reserve (who was appointed under Bush) has stated that America will no longer remain prosperous if we do not do something regarding income disparity.

I don't think that we "hide it from the world" I just think that compared to other countries we are in a "better" situation therefore its less noticeable. Although I do understand that it is difficult to compare poverty rate between fully developed, developing, and underdeveloped countries there are countries in far more worse conditions. There are people in other countries such as Africa, Asia, Latin America, parts of Europe that suffer from severe malnutrition, epidemic disease outbreaks, famine, and war. Countries such as the United States, Canada, Japan, western Europe are affected by poverty, homelessness, etc. less severely.
By no means am I saying that living in poverty, homeless etc. in the US is great. I am just saying that if you think we have it bad, you should check out poverty in other countries.

It hasn't been a secret to me? I am sad you find it is. Now that you know this, see what you can do to help those in need. If more people help then it won't be such a large problem. Hungry children and homeless people have been an issue in America for sometime. This is nothing new.

the Politicians are in the pocket of a lot of the wrong lobbys.
Illegal immigration. Politicians do nothing about it because big business lobbyists want it.
Social Security. Politicians do nothing because the AARP likes it the way it is.
Medicine. Politicians do nothing because they are in the pocket of the pharmacutical companies, even though other countries pay far less for the same treatments.

We have to hide it to look good to the rest of the world. Politicians don't care about the people. They just want face time. No we are not fighting a civil war. Uncivil.

Oh that's right...it's almost time for an election.
Time to drag the mythical starving masses, the homeless so-called vets, the senior citizens who have to eat dog food, and all the other old canards back on the stage for another flogging.
What are you doing to help all these poor souls?
"Raising Awareness" by whining on an internet forum doesn't count for much.
