There are people starving in America but I do not think we need more 'feeding centers'. Anyone in America who needs a free meal can get one, the people who are starving are not willing to take that free meal for some reason or another.

Those are not 'covered up facts'. Poverty in this nation is no secret. There are vast numbers of feeding centers and progams all over this nation. What we need more of are people willing to reach out to those in need. 'feeding center' do not run themselves and they are not the ultimate answer. Poverty will never be overcome by 'feeding centers' alone, but requires involvement of everyone that cares.

Actually, Jenny Ann, we have an increasing number of homeless young people in the USA because they can no longer afford to pay the extremely high rents and inflated home values. Many homeless people and starving people will not go to feeding centers due to trust issues and the rules that are often imposed upon them. Additionally, we have 12-20 million illegal immigrants living and working and having babies in the USA with more and more coming while our jobs are being outsourced to foreign countries and our local jobs are being filled by H1b Visa holders. We may need more feeding centers but when we have so many people losing their jobs and so many people strapped for money and working three low-paying jobs just to make ends meet, how can we staff them and where are we going to get the money to stock them? Many of us, including myself and others who post under this name, cook for the homeless and volunteer at PADS programs and other shelters. Some people don't want to even look at the facts and think that by allowing illegal immigrants to continue to come and live and work in the USA while continuing to disobey our laws, we are furthering the starvation and inability of Citizens to continue to support them. In addition to feeding centers, we need to stop the increasing real estate tax/value drain on the middle income families who are so generous in their efforts to stop the hunger. Sooner or later, and it is increasingly becoming sooner, middle class families will no longer be able to pay their mortgages, their real estate taxes, their medical bills, and even for food and since the middle class does the majority of the volunteer work, it stands to reason that that will dry up too. We will soon be looking at "an every man for himself" survival scenario.

You gotta mouse in your pocket? I am not covering up anything! Sorry that you weren't aware that people are starving here. Maybe think about WHY you didn't know and WHY you haven't seen...
Then think about how you're going to help. Good luck. :)

I think it's time for some people to stop taking everything they see on American Idol as the Gospel truth.

I think it's time the Americans, and us Brits, stop tearing into our respective leaders. It's like we want to create anarchy in our own countries. Where is the patriotism? It's like we set out to destroy ourselves. Instead of standing strong as a united country, we'd rather place blame on those in power, for events that are often out of their control. At times leaders will make mistakes, as they are only human, but calling for their resignation will only unbalance the country, bring on another leader, who in turn will be blamed and hated.
I apologise for not answering your question as you would have liked.

America needs to awake from its denial. Not only that, but it also needs to become a part of the world, instead of only considering its own interests. Here we consider ourselves Americans first and world citizens second. This xenophobia is rare in the rest of the world. I think it mostly comes from our ignorance, selfishness, and, as I said before, denial. Americans can be extremely good, but far too many of us fall into those three vices above.

What we need is to get rid of unemployment benefits and help out the working poor.
We can fix Social security while we're at it. It's going to destroy us.

I think you may have a point here. Sometimes the truth may be ugly, unappealing, or even hard to hear but if it is not faced it surfaces in another way; and when it does resurface it shows itself in a worse way than when it first appeared.

ya, and somehow our "starving" people are still fat.....
no one is starving in this country, and if they are its their own damn fault..... that´s why so many immigrants come to this country and do better than the average american....
they know what opportunities are here.... they know that this is a country where the sky is the limit... and that you have to work to get there.....
starving people.... please...... there´s a $.99 menu around every corner.....
