The url remains present as long as the registration is paid (for example if you paid in advance for a year, which is typical, then it is present for that year...) However, if no host is present, then it'll point nowhere and the typist will get an odd 404 error message. Or you may set up the index.htm to include a paragraph 'this site is under destruction' or some such.
