Not all things that exist have a purpose. That's not what biology teaches.

Ticks are food for a lot of things, but if they vanished their niche would be filled by other stuff.

ticks are exremely interesting critters.
they have a chemical in their saliva that acts as a local anisthetic so the person/animal getting bit doesn't feel a thing.
scientists are studying this chemical for various medical purposes.
another chemical in their saliva prevents th blood from clotting, which is also being studied for medical purposes.

they are very interesting critters with their bite mechanisms and chemicals used to get blood.

as for their use....
well, humans are using them for research, so there's a purpose!

They help Lyme's disease move from one animal to another. So, depending on your perspective, they do that job very well.
