Do American Idol contestants get paid for performing on the show?

I believe they get paid to do the musical commercials for Ford and Coke. But I dont think they get paid for being on the show.

No, but they do get a lot of free stuff. I understand that every week they get a $400 budget for that week's outfit that they wear during their performance, and they get to keep the clothes. Also, mid-season, they always get free makeovers, complete with highlights, new makeup, haircuts, etc. So they probably get about $5000 of free stuff if they make it to the end of the show. Also, whoever wins gets a car usually.
