they can, but relapse is always a possibility. it takes a lot of work from the alcoholic and his/her family. if you are a believer, prayer can help as well.

Yes they do change for the better. They just are not allowed to drink anything containing alcohol what-so-ever! It they ever drink anything with alcohol in it, it's like a 360 degree turn. It can be very harmful and dangerous to be around that person. I know because I've had several friends that were nasty drunks and I had to pick up many of broom sticks to kick their @sses out of my home! And the bad thing about it is that for some, the next day they don't remember a damn thing. So I know longer associate myself with mean drunks! Because I'm a happy one! LOL!

Im not an alcoholic but when ever I do drink I become very violent, Ive now decided that Im not going to drink anymore because i'm tired o people telling me how stupid I act when I do, and then the next day I cant remember anything.

they can cause alot of time the violent acts are a result of the alcohol. So with programs like AA and other counseling they can change. I speak with experience cause of my father.

Yes. They have to get sober, and they may also need other support, but yes, they absolutely can change.

They will change if they wish to. They will not necessarily change because you wish them to.

some do and some don't, my father in law wasa bad drunk untill the day he died.
