Soul comes under esoteric knowledge. but so far no body could explain about it. Can't we know or infer about the soul? Is it 'nothing' or something? I would like to know from enlightened 'souls'

A form of this question was asked earlier. This was my reply then and IMHO applies here as well:

I agree that there is an energy force within the body that powers the system it is transmitted by and through our neural system . When we die that function stops. That is a given. If you have ever seen any creature die and I have been unfortunate to have seen this on several occasions ,there is an almost immediate shut down visible in the eyes. One moment they look alive, there is energy there ,at death that light literally goes out and this is readily apparent.when you see it.

What is not given is when and how does that process start.? It has to start to exist so when does that happen - at conception -or at sometime during the prenatal period. To have energy it must come from somewhere so where and how ? I don't know it just happens

It is no coincidence that another word for soul is "anima" ( like in animate) so to me that energy that runs us is our soul - with it there is life - without it there is no life. Does it continue after life - I don't know but how do you destroy energy - you can convert it but it still exsts in another form

Medicine has established the fact that a person weighs less than they did just before death. I am trying to find where I read that, but I can't.

I explained the soul to my children by blowing on their hands and asking them if they could see the breath? "no" can they feel the breath?, they said "yes" I told them that the soul is something that is... yet we can't see it. We can only feel it.

Humans can debate, the questions you ask, and never truly understand or explain the "soul"

I believe an "enlightened soul" is a person who comes the conclusion that the question can't be answered and then that person comes to feel the peace in life, in spite of not fully understanding. This person knows that the mysteries of the universe will be revealed when they cross in to the spiritual realm. Only then can the souls be who they are without the entrapment of the body.

The soul & the spiritual realm is beyond our human understanding. It is exciting to know that eventually there will be a time when the mysteries of the universe will be revealed to us.

There are no enlightened souls. On enlightenment the Universal Soul is realized. So there will be only the One.

In Hindu philosophy and in almost all other religions too, there is the concept of Jeevatma (Say, the soul of AVR, Nagarajan, xyz.. etc), which is the Individual soul and Paramatma (The Universal soul), which for want of any better word one can term God.

It is difficult to conceive of an individual soul that is some kind of purified Ego of the gross person (again like AVR etc) walking about on earth. The situation seems to be that the soul is just One.

The shenanigan's of the bundle of thoughts gadding about with individual physical bodies with associated labels and a perennial preoccupation with the little 'I' cast a veil over the Eternal Being and do not allow the Being to be revealed.

This revelation will happen on the death of the Ego. "Whosoever loses his life shall find it' was said in this context. Lose the ego and Eternal life is instantly realized.

Read Ramana's teachings on Self Enquiry. Ceaselessly ask: 'Who am I?' The curious thing is that to kill the ego one has to use the ego to get on with the enquiry. In effect a suicide attempt.

It is said that it works.

Hi

Soul is immortal. It is the true self...

In actuality, these living entities are atomic parts and parcels of the supreme spirit. It is said in the Srimad-Bhagavatam that the length and breadth of the individual soul is approximately 1/10,000th part of the tip of a hair -- in other words, it is so small that it is invisible.

Every individual person, he is a soul, and he has got a particular type of body. Especially in the human body he requires education. What is this animal and what is higher than human race, these are Vedic description. So there are 8,400,000 different forms of life, and the body is being evolved. The body is machine, and the individual soul desires and he gets a suitable body made by material nature under the order of God. This is Vedic idea, as it is said in the Bhagavad-gita, isvarah sarva-bhutanam hrd-dese arjuna tisthati. God is existing within the core of everyone's heart, and the individual soul is desiring something, and upon the order God he is given a machine made by material nature. So this is evolution, and even a man, although he is human form of body, he can again degenerate to animal form of body according to his desire. Tatha dehantara-praptih. He has to change the body, and the body is changed according to his work and desire. In the animal kingdom they have also desires, but they are under the laws of nature changing body, and one is given the chance to become a human being, and then he may desire, and according to his desires he gets the next body. If he likes, he can go higher forms of life, and if he degenerates he goes lower form of life.

Once liberated from this material world the soul will regain its original consciousness as an eternal servitor of god and live immortaly

Souls are too complex (or possibly too simple) to fit within the same boundaries of existence that the universe can fit within, however they do exist despite our inability to scientifically verify it.
At a Quantum level the 'particles' associalted with souls is material with no time property (Soul is endless), in string thoery terms; it's missing one, Souls can never 'exist' in our 4 dimensional reality.
This is no indicator that they have no substance it just means that that type of substance is nowhere in our reality.
(at Quantum level all particles pop in and out of existence and in and out of time in a non-linear fashion. )

that answer fits with my feeling that the answer to your question:
"Is the soul nothing or something"
is
"MU" (a japanese word there's no word for in English - we only have two answers to yes no questions MU is a third psosibility it means "unask the question - the question is wrong" when no-one can easily answer a question satisfactorily it's often a good time to use MU and unask the question to find an answer! )

NAGARAJAN, If you are truly searching for Soul and wish to take anthing with you from what I know take these next seven words

Soul is an event, not a thing,

:you cannot find 'a' soul anywhere in our universe because all of existence happens as part of an event called Soul not the other way around

Something that does not exist cannot have a substance.
The soul does not exist.
It is a human conceit born out of the inability to face up the fact that we are organisms just like any other animal and will cease to exist once we die just like any other animal.
All that will be left of us will be our physical remains and the memories others have of us once we are gone.
Our ability to speculate about the existence of souls comes from the extraordinarily complex functioning of an extraordinarily complex brain. When we die that brain ceases to function and so does our ability to think, feel and experience.
There is no ineffable, unchanging substance within humans - the "I" that exists now is very different to the "I" that existed a decade ago.

From the scientific principle of Einsteins - GR , E=Mc2, all matter has a type of soul, since it is the unification of information and energy that give rise to form. The human soul is fundamentally similar, but different in the aspect that this energy has a unique and distinct pattern and matrix construct for tapping into the Akashic Record System.

when energy is tied together in groups of participating lines it carries in its wake a sort of pattern which seems to be part of the substance itself
when you consider your experience of any object you may reasonably respond to it with a limited number of reactions
due to the effect upon the substance but reguardless this pattern continues
when you move upon the other substances around things are displaced from their previous location in an incredibly
complex and widespread pattern which is the creation of certain forces we do experience
such as wind
but what is wind?
is it this displacement ?
is it your response to the displacement
is it the substance which experiences displacement
when you look for substance whithin some of our words you do not have a clear idea of what it is you are looking for
the soul is neither you nor your response nor the cause which led to its experience
it is a uniquely existant pattern which arises from your recognition of the pattern itself
within the conceptual realm we may liken it to many different and more shared experiences
concrete experiences which can be measured
but just as the wind the recognition of its direction speed velocity etc are not the wind itself
the soul marks a space between what is and where it came from
its awareness of you is an unneccessary function of its pattern
it knows you all to well
and yet your need to know it may be essential to the potential which you can develop for deriving true love and joy from your life
the recognition of the deep connection there between your experience of the world and your substance from which your experiences are derived has a huge chasm to cross in that our minds have ursurped the natural connection with the hopes of coming up with a better substance from which we might control out experiences life rips these bonds of thought which we attempt to bind it with
life delivers nothing extra as all energy is known to operate within rules of conservation and no energy is ever actually added or released by our effort
life spits at our plans to restore it to some temple which others may not hold less dear
this life we try to maintain is soulless and unviable due to the lack of connection which it maintains with those patterns which are the substance
soul is nothing and somthing in that it relates to the object and the space between that object and another
soul is unknown there for we can infer only what it is not

but if you find yours you will never know it and if you know it you know that it finds you when you are ready to see and hear it

A good question and it deserved a star but as to answering the question that is totally different.

Who really know what the answer to is - no one I suspect as it appears to be in the realm of believe rather that solid fact.

I suppose one can only give an opinion but then again who's to say he/she is right?

Maybe we will have to work on this individually and find the answer for ourselves to find the inner peace we are really looking for.

Our soul is something, I believe, is something that is as individual as our personal character, only deeper in sensitivity and emotion.

That's the best I can do - sorry!

One would be better able to answer you if you made your question clearer. I do ot believe the soul is something that can be known. We can know ideas and personality of a person but never something akin to "soul."
