A gynocologist is a doctor that deals specifically with issues that relate to genitalia, sex hormones, sexual activities, sexually tranmitted infections, birth control/contraception, etc.
When you see a gynonocologist, s/he will probably have you fill out a form with some health history, including life style choices (whether you drink, smoke, do recreational drugs, how often you exercise, etc), your sexual history (orientation, sexual activity, whether you use protection from STIs, etc).
Then they will perform an exam. This included a breast exam to look for lumps (to prevent and discover breast cancer). They will feel around in your stomach area and slightly below to feel your ovaries, uterus, etc. Then they should lubricate their fingers and feel inside your vagina and possibly rectum. After that, they will probably do a pap smear (to test for cervial cancer) after inseting a speculum to look at your cervix.
They will probably also ask you whether you're using any form of protection against STIs and pregnancy (if you're heterosexual). They may offer you a variety of choices if you're looking for birth control or protection. Additionally, they may ask you if you want to be tested for STIs, and in that case, they may need a blood draw as well.
Hope that helped!

A Gynecologist is a doctor that deals with the female reproduction system. They do checkups and tests to keep you healthy or get you that way. Any woman/girl who has become sexually active needs to be seen by their OB/GYN to get information on birthcontrol and disease related issues. You can get infections and diseases of all kinds once you become sexually active. On your first visit you fill out a lot of paper work, then sometimes a blood test, physical exam including the private areas. You may be uncomfortable just tell your doctor and he/she will try and be as direct and quick as possible. There is usually a nurse in the room as well. If you perfer your mother (if your a minor) can come into the room with you. Although I don't recommend this at all. You need your privacy if there are things you don't want her to know about. Be sure to check their credetials and licenses to verify they are a REAL doctor. Best of luck

A gynocologist is a doctor that specializes in the female reproductive system. You never really have to see one unless your regular doc cannot figure out what is wrong with you. Regular MD's handle most vaginal infections, Pap smears and other routine GYN things. If something is wrong that needs more expertise than they have then they will refer you to a GYN doc. Many women are under the mistaken impression that you have to see a regular doc for other problems and a GYN for all of your female organ health needs and this is not true.
