I agree--definitely take speech and debate, and perhaps join (or start) a history club. You might also want to look into joining the school newspaper. But even more important, just be as well-rounded a student as you can, and try to take leadership roles, so that you can get into a great college, which will give you an edge when applying to law schools.

How about debate team, mock trial, or any club associated with activism and/or news-related issues? Besides those obvious clubs, it'd also help to get involved in community service organizations and honors societies. Not because community service or honors societies are relevant to the legal field, but because those types of clubs are considered very "respectable" by colleges, which in turn will help you to get into a good college that has a very good pre-law program that can lead to law school admission.

The Debate Team

There are lawyers who are mentors to high school students. In my area, a lawyer teaches the law classes and the class room is an actual court room that tries cases where students participate. However, outside of the class room, various companies invite students to shadow and participate in the work. If you have this in your area, then please JUMP on it. Check with Your state bar, your school district office and your law professor/teacher.

Best of luck to you!

I would say definitely take as many political/government classes as you can, and for extra curricular, I would definitely enroll in speech and debate.

That way, you are preparing for your potential new role in the future.
