Kid of like living in close quarters with relatives you don't like.

I saw Richard Sherman (the guy who co-wrote the Mary Poppins score, Winnie the Pooh score, The Aristocats Score-- a ton of others-- and its a small world) last year and he gave a talk and played the piano while he explained all his songs.
It was absolutely wonderful! I got there early to get a front row seat. It was like he was playing and talking only to me--
Anyway, he explained that he and his brother meant for "its a small world" to be played at a much slower tempo and sang as a prayer. He sang it that was and it was so amazing to hear it done like that at 1/3 the speed it plays in the ride. It was very moving.
Your question reminded me of that.

Then there's Todd-- he just says, "Well, there's too many rats in the cage..."

To my knowledge the Earth hasn't shrank. now as far as proximity and exposure to different cultures, ideas, religions and such, that is where the conflict lies. As far as family, they are just a smaller version of life's conundrums.
