My Mother in Law is a singing teacher, She and her students swear that if you take a tomato and slightly roast it directly over an open burner flame or in a frying pan, just enough to slightly loosen the skin from the rest of the tomato, and then let it cool until you can safely apply it like a poultice on your throat. Then cover it up with a kitchen towel or some other piece of cloth and let it remain on for at least twenty minutes.
Plenty of water is another thing you need when a throat is hoarse and above all, be careful because nose ear and throat doctors are full of patients who have damaged their vocal chords just by indiscriminate yelling and cheering. Some patients have developed growths and polyps on their vocal chords when they do that once too often.

i guess they made so many advice here.. but you know what "the best thing you should do is not to do anything about it". Because hoarsing throat or losing your voice is just a natural thing everyone of us, specially singers, have gone through. Now just let it be, lose your voice and youll find out it has a purpose. Maybe this will be the time to know who really cares about you while you are being silent in one corner or you will find out who among those who surrounds you- understand the things you wanna say EVEN W/OUT A WORD.
By the way, scientist has proven that after experiencing a loss of voice for a while, it will just be better THE NEXT TIME when your sense of talking/singing is working, yeah its like that ya'll changing an old skin to a rosy new one.
But if you really want to make it faster, buy Strepsil from the pharmacy and take it every 30 minutes. But remember what i say going through the whole process of losing your voice and ANYTHING, being sad and happy again is the ONE OF THE BEST things you can enjoy in this life. (",)

1. Drink warm drinks and soup to ease the pain, give you fluids, and some nourishment.
2. Take a hot shower. The steam vapors help clear your sinuses, which usually is a cause of a sore throat.
3. Gargle with lukewarm salty water at least 3 to 4 times a day.
4. Cut a lemon in half, skewer it, and roast over a stove fire until the skin is golden-brown. Squeeze out the juice and mix in 1 tablespoon of honey. Stir and drink.
5. Stay away from eating hard foods, like meat, chicken and toast.
6. If you eat something, and it hurts going down, stop eating it.
7. Swallow one teaspoon or tablespoon of honey. The honey coats the throat and provides momentary relief.

I'm a speech therapist-
1.vocal rest is step number one- do not whisper even- this damages the vocal folds even more becasue you are straining them to keep them open and letting air rush through- its drying and more effort than talking quietly ...if you must talk
2. hydrate- drink lots of water
3. more hyradtion- use a humidifier while you sleep
4. do not use antihystemine/ allergy meds (they dry out your membranes)
5. do not use throat numbing sprays/ cough drops and talk with them becasue your throat feels better- you're still hurt and you just can't feel the damage you're doing
6. stop smoking
7. don't drink alcohol or caffinated beverages (drink de-caf tea)
your vocal folds bang together to produce sound... when you yell- they come together more forcefully. Having a sore throat is like getting a sore/ blister on your hand after raking leaves... its irritated and red and if you continue- the redness turns to an actual blister-like poylp. then over time if you have vocal abuse continuously (ie: singing/ cheerleading/ speaking too much - teaching or marketing/ using the wrong voice/ screaming/ talking repetatively in a loud environemt for long periods of time, etc) the blister ends up turning into a callus and becomes hard and thick. this callus is called a vocal fold nodule. the nodule adds mass to your vocal fold (making your voice deeper) and the bump prevents the vocal fold from closing all the way (making your voice breath as air escapes through the fold while you are trying to phonate- make sound)- vocal abuse is a serious thing espcially for celebs that depend on their voices and teachers and other that depend on their voices for a living- some require surgery to remove the nodule, but without behavioral changes to alter the way you talk and use your voice, the nodules usually return.

well there are different methods, a do it yourself method that is, get a half glass of undiluted honey, break an egg and extract the yolk and add it to the honey add a dash of powdered garlic and mix properly thats all lick it all you should be relieved. The other method is a glass cup of warm water plus a table spoonful of salt very early in the morning just pretend you want to swallow it but instead allow the solution to stay for a minute in your throat and then gargle it and then spew it out and then repeat it later in the day . The third method is if you can get some palm -oil and add either a cube of sugar or little salt to it then lick ;for additional effect you can add a dash of lemon juice freshly plucked from its tree. Finally you can chew a fuit called( bitter kola)it clears the throat effectively.

Best course of action is, in fact, to stop talking and allow throat to heal.
Usually, though, this is not an option. So, try some hot tea with lemon. That's real lemon juice, not something from a bottle that might not be pure juice. Learned in Drama class decades ago that pure lemon juice is best cause the acid cleans off dead tissue from the vocal chords and throat or something, but pure lemon juice by itself is sometimes just a bit too harsh.

Drink warm water with some honey in it. Repeat as often as thirsty. Give your vocal chords some rest by not speaking for a few hours. Do not whisper - that puts more stress on your throat. Finally, if you can, put a warm wrap on your neck/throat - a quick way to do this is by putting a 30-40 drops of water on a small towel and microwave it for 40 seconds on high. Touch the surface with your hands and make sure that it won't scald your skin before wrapping it around your neck.

Take it easy on the yelling for a day while nursing your throat and vocal chords with a some warm tea, honey and lemon. It's an old wives tale remedy, but it always worked when I was hoarsed-out!
