Martin Luther King Jr. was killed on April 4, 1968. There are several theories on why he was killed . They considered him a threat to the American scene because of his view on civil rights. His anti-war stance of Vietnam did not go well with the established powers.Sinister plots of racism cannot be counted out.,nor can the suspicions of J Edgar Hoover of him being a Communist sympathizer be ruled out.

King was murdered by James Earl Ray on April, 4 1968 in Memphis, TN. He was murdered because of his agitation and success in the civil rights movement which transformed American society.
In my personal opinion, MLK was one of the great men of the 20th century. He forced whites in America to live up to their ideals. And he forced blacks to live up to the promise of equality.
From the very start of America, race has been the single damning question--how can Revolutionary America believe in freedom if we also support a class of people as property? And then after the Civil War, amendments in the US Constitution specifically designed to bring equity between the races were either ignored or suppressed by Jim Crow Laws such that blacks and other minorities could be held to second class citizen status.
Martin Luther King and his contemporaries faced down white opposition to equality between the races, and they did it peacefully. It is the greatest tribute one can give to King that in the face of armed opposition, white mobs, fire-hoses, and eventually assassination, that peaceful resolution occurred.
There are some people in history, I would have liked to have met--Martin Luther King is one of them.

He was killed at 6:01 pm April 4th, 1968 on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. Allegedly, the assassins claim they thought King was connected with Communism and that's why he was killed.

1968 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. There are lots of people who wished him dead (white supremacists) but it is not clear whether his assassination was a definite anti-Black act or was the work of an oddball who simply wanted to get himself noticed by harming a famous person. The news of his death led to riots in many US cities because he was well loved for his non-violence stance and he .was the public face of the civil rights movement

It is QUESTIONABLE without knowing WHO killed him. Yeah I know they say it was James Earl Ray BUT he said he was coerced into it. He said from early on that the confession was forced. Even the family finally agree that he should get a new trial, sadly he died before he could get a new trial. So yeah it is hard to say WHY without the knowing who for sure. Suffice to say he had many enemies though.
