did conservatives take the term peacemaker to mean a nuclear bomb?

What's with the gung ho kill them all let God sort them out attitude against muslims? Ann Coulter says we should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and force them into christianity. Pat Robertson said we should take out Chavez from Venenzuela. John Hagee says this is WWIII, prepare for Armageddon, Jesus is coming.

Drew,

Please point out where Jesus spoke out against gay marriage and abortion. There is not a word of it in the gospel. There is however plenty of Jesus talk about helping the less fortunate, nonviolence, and criticism of the rich and self rigtheous religious leaders of his day.

Let me add, if you're going to make the argument that Jesus = God = Holy Spirit, then you're saying Jesus also stands for slavery, killing nonbelievers, stoning gays, and taking your enemies virgins for yourself. All of that is in the Bible too.

That's the sermon on the mount from Matthew ch 5... if you read the first verses of that chapter (like 1-10 or so) Jesus says a lot of things that conservatives really don't live up to. I think that most conservatives realize that most of their world view generally aligns with a good deal of the christians in this country...does that mean that all christians agree with all the things that they do? That is way to broad don't you think? Jesus didn't give a crap about politics (in fact when people tried to trap him in politcal statements he wasn't havin' it) Political views etc are just as temporary as the people that have them...Jesus big thing was the soul...that lives forever. As far as Pat Robertson...i dunno...not really into his ideaology and John Hagee may be a little loud and such but... regardless of the fact that he rubs people the wrong way..Jesus said he would return, he also said that when he did that most of the world wouldn't like it and try to fight him..(aka armageddon) and what better way to set an anti-christian climate than to have a bunch of jerk faces(current administration) saying their christians pissing people off?
Those people want to "kill em all blah blah" because they are hungry for power. It has nothing to do with Jesus.

ps. after i read your additional comments...just because something is IN the Bible doesn't mean that it is CONDONED by the Bible...of course God is NOT an advocate for slavery, rape and what not...a history book tells you about the holocaust, does that mean that historians think that it was a good idea?

Obviously those that say such things are greatly overstating themselves or are so far to the right they can no longer see the center. I have to give them credit however in that they see and understand the danger we are facing with Islamic extremism and terrorists. Although I do not agree with their tactics they do understand that these terrorist do not negoitiate and will not stop until we are they are all dead. The opposite site of the spectrum the far left does not understand this. They believe there is no consequence for taking a back seat to this fight or not fighting at all. They believe that somehow the terrorist will come to their senses and start talking to us on a civil platform. Liberals blame America for all the ills of the world and soceity and think that America must be changed to fit a world model, so that they (terrorists and other countries will like us). I am a moderate but currently side with the cons view point as they will at least do someting to combat terrorism, while the libs just put forth no ideas but defeatism and hope for the best. Althought I do not agree with the cons on their methods 100% at least they are trying to protect and side with caution when facing our enemies.

Wel, if the Muslim countries were peaceful, didnt support terrorism and didnt want to eliminate anyone who thought differently, and we made war with them for no reason, that is wrong. However, God wages war against evil. Terrorism is evil, genocide is evil, what Syria, Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia is doing is evil. I want peace, God wants peace. But others dont. the 19 terrorists on 9/11 did not want peace. The terror networks who organize attacks do not want peace. look at Hamas, they do not want peace. When someone wages war on you, someone wages war on you. Ann Coulter is wrong. christianity is not to be forced upon someone. Its a choice. Muslims often force their religion, Christianity is different. You chose, but you choices have consequences, eternal consequences. This may be WW3, who knows? The Middle East is violatile, and not just because of us. And Jesus will decide when He comes back. Are you prepared? If He came today, would you go with Him, or would you be left behind?

A preacher was asked on CNN about the war and he said, "Because people do not have Christ in their hearts, they go to war."
Ann Coulter is a sad case. Her pic is on the cover of her book Godless (I think) and she looks nothing like Jesus Christ in that pic. May God help her to see whose side she is really on. Sad.
Jesus was a humble man who preached love and brotherhood for all. He taught to love enemies and to pray for those who hate you, he said to forgive and love.
He said to take the gospel to the world, not bombs.
As it is, the gospel is not taught as love anymore.
It used to be a suffering shame to be a Christian following Jesus to heaven, now it is an honor and a pride filled call to fight and kill those who disagree with you.
Sounds like the Crusades all over again.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever.

Ever heard the term kill them with niceness? It's the same thing that Jesus was teaching. Love those who do you wrong, pray for your enemies, turn the other way when someone has done you wrong. Returning hate for hate will only make matters worse but if you be nice and pray for them who use you it'll make them feel stupid. This is not always easy but it can be done. Jesus is a man who is full of love and wants His followers to do the same as He did.

Peacemaking requires strength at times - in fact, all of the time. Because you are a liberal and devoid of sense, you don't understand this.

The United States, for example was one of the peacemakers in World War 2, but that did not mean standing around holding hands and singing songs (or misinterpreting scriptures to mean that).

Did Jesus say it was ok to let someone murder hundreds of thousands of people, use chemical and biological weapons, and threatenhis neighbors and the world? There is a thing called sins of ommissions, and failing to do something about an abhorrent evil in the world the only way to ensure that we are all overcome by it.

Yeah, we should have probably stayed out of that European War known as WWII, because it was only Japan that bombed us. You sometimes have to fight to obtain peace. Libs may never understand that, but a political perspective based on cowardice and weakness never will.
