Because you MIGHT use it (just as your question infers). It's up to you to make that distinction.

You are not expected to remember the detail of what you learned. You are expected to remember that once upon a time you learned something about a particular subject. Later in life, if and when it comes up again, you pick up a book and brush up on the old skill rather than learning it cold without a teacher.

Cause you dont know what you might use in the future... I hated math in highschool and wouldnt you know it, as a framing contractor I used pathagrym theory all the time! And then as fate would have it I ended up a financial consultant for a broker dealer and use advanced algebra ALL the time!

Its better to have well rounded people than people who only know the bare minimum... Look at Asia's and then look at Mexico.

Some people "might not use" ANY of their learning, does that mean we should get rid of schools completely? Believe it or not, there is a purpose to all that information. Even if it is not used practically, just learning it helps develop your brain, and keeps it from rotting.

Well, I would say that its because you 'know' stuff, you 'use' that stuff. So your teacher is helping you use as many things as possible.
For eg: Its because you know "Internet" exists, you are using it to ask this question.
Its because you have studied English language that you are using it to communicate with people.
Be patient! You will soon come to know 'where and how' will you be using stuff, that your teacher is currently teaching you!
