Are you kidding? American Idol is all about total-package marketing -- what you look like is more important than how you sound, even though many of the folks on American Idol are talented singers. The difference between the idols and folks like David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash is the difference between being a musician and a performer. Back in the day you had to be a musician -- you had to be able to sing, play an instrument (or be in a group with people who could play instruments) and write songs. Nowadays you just need the look and a decent voice and the record company execs will take care of the rest.

I don't really think any fantastic musicians from the past would have a shot on the show, because they are looking for an American Idol, not an American Musician. Idols have always been watered-down, packaged, entertainers who are marketed to teens. For example, David Cassidy would have had a chance on "Idol," but Bob Dylan would not. They try to pass it off as a talent competition, but we all know it is just another marketing ploy to get teens to buy records of people who will never be remembered as great musicians of our time.

Nope. And Elvis Costello isn't pretty either, and the Beatles would be out, except maybe Paul, but if you don't look and sound like Jessica Simpson nowadays, forget it. Rock has gone underground again!

American Idol is not a singing contest. It's a reality show. That's why CSN would not do so well.

no, CSN and sometimes Y wouldn't stand a chance in this time of copycats and non artists.

I saw CSNY last year and they were still incredible.
