I was on insulin the entire pregnancy. My son weighed just over 5 pounds and 2 weeks early. I didn't have any complications as I was on a strict diet and watched my sugars very very close. He was fine when he got here too. The first 24 hours his sugars had to adjust not being on the insulin with me anymore. Which is a normal reaction in newborns of diabetic mothers. I was 37 when he was born last year. My second son, I was diabetic but they did not detect it and I had so many complications from my kidneys shutting down to my liver swelling and not working. I had him 5 weeks early and he weighed all of 3 pounds because the doc I had then didn't do his job right and put me on the insulin. He, thank God was OK. I almost lost him several times. Good luck!

I develpoed Diabetes in my second trimester when I was 23 years old. My son came out a whopping 10lbs 8oz and 22 inches long he was huge. I had to have a c-section but that was because I already had two previously not because of his size, although Im glad I did. But Diabetes is hereditary on my mom's side she got it when she was pregnant with me and i unfortunately came out huge too. My son just turned one on the 10th and he hasnt had any complications or illnesses over the past year not even a cold and his weight is normal. All i can say is while you are pregnant get out and exercise eat right, stay away from pop and sweets even if you crave them. also it is best if you are at your ideal weight when you become pregnant that was what my problem was which also contributed to the Diabetes.

My daughter had Type I Diabetes (Juvenile). She had my granddaughter at age 24. She is 40 now and my granddaughter is 16 and healthy. My daughter had 9 eye surgeries, kidney failure and on dialysis for 1 year, and in 2005 she had transplants for a kidney and a pancreas.
I love my daughter and my granddaughter, but my daughter put her body through a great risk to have my granddaughter.
Twice we rushed her to the hospital for low blood sugar and going into a coma because my granddaughter had taken all of the food that she had eaten during the pregnancy. It is hard enough to balance food and insulin for one eater, but when you have two eating - it is impossible. She delivered by cesarean section because she couldn't have her normally.
For reasons like this is why they call pregnant diabetics "High Risk Pregnancy."
My daughter was diabetic at age 11. And my granddaughter is now 16 years old and no sign of any problems except allergies and asthma.

Hey. I'm male, so never had a baby lol. But my mother had gestational diabetes when she was pregnant with me and my twin brother. Her gestational diabetes went away...but I developed diabetes myself when I was 15. (My twin brother hasn't...yet) :)

I didn't, but my sister did. They closely monitored her while she was pregnant. She had a perfectly healthy baby girl. 7lbs.2oz. and 19 inches long. It seemed to me that my sister was more at risk than the baby was. She was 32.
